Dissertation objectives  The objective of the dissertation would be
exploring the significance of foreign direct
investments (FDIs) to bring about growth in the
globally significant industries like petroleum.
 The dissertation would study the significant role
FDI plays in supporting the infrastructure of the
petroleum companies in petroleum producing
countries like Oman. The developed and
developing companies invest immense amount of
capital into the drilling, refining and production of
petroleum products like petrol and its allied
products. Lack of investments from these countries
can lead to under utilisation of natural resources
like petroleum. This underutilisation of the
petroleum resources would hit the petroleum
production in the global market.
 The researcher would also delve into the business

models which are emerging in the field of FDI. It
would also explore the business strategies the
petroleum companies of Oman have adopted to
attract FDIs from foreign countries.
 The researcher would go on to recommend
improvements in the strategies which the
petroleum companies of Oman can use to attract
more foreign direct investments.
Research findings  The research reveals certain important findings
pertaining to importance of FDI in Oman to bring
about development in its petroleum industry. The
findings reveal that Oman is a developing country
which is dependent on the foreign direct
investments from other countries. The
liberalisation of the business policies in the country
would boost its manufacturing sector which would
generate revenue and bring about improvements in
the economic conditions in the country. The
research also shows that Oman is rich in natural
resources but lack the technology and
infrastructure to exploit the resources.
 The findings also reveal that the business policies
of the government of Oman revolves around
forming business models aligned with the FDI
generation in the country. The petrochemical

companies are forming strong business models for
profitable business relationships with the suppliers
and customers. The aim of the business model is
reduction of costs, maximum utilisation of
resources and maximisation of profits of the
stakeholders.
 The findings ultimately reveal that oil and natural
gas generation companies in Oman are of small
sizes. Foreign direct investment from foreign
countries would boost the operations of these small
companies.
Research limitations  Dearth of time restricted the researcher from
conducting detailed research and had to
compromise on quality.
 Limitations of money inhibited the researcher from
accessing to high quality online study materials,
most of which are paid services.
 The lack of interests of respondents inhibited the
researcher and limited the data generation by
interviewing them.
 The researcher also faced lack of quality reliable
sources of information on the internet.
Time frame The research would span over five weeks
