Alexander Grahambell-
The concept for a special school for the special children or the
differently abled children came into being with Alexander Grahambell, in the
1800s. He was the first ever person to understand that since the differently
abled children are special, therefore, there should be different schools to
educate them.
Commercialising of the Special Schools-
The concept of Special School became popular, globally, and the need
of the same was understood, in as late as 1970s, when the special children
were ensured by their human rights. It was understood that the children need
special care and attention to get involved in the education process.

Almost in all parts of the world the Special Education Needs (SEN) Programme is included.
The Programmes is aiming to point out the differences and the different needs of each of the pupil,
and therefore, planning ford the educational programmes according to that.

course of life, so that they do not feel abandoned.
The basic rights and the human rights of the children will also be preserved.

Impact on Myself:
While reviewing the educational needs of the special children, the learning
process gave me a sound perspective regarding the concept and definition of the term
disabled, or different abled or physically challenged and mentally challenged.
Previously I had aver little understanding of the concept. The learning also made me
realise that they are not incapable of anything, it is just that they need more effort in
cognising something and therefore, it is our duty and responsibility to provide them
with the needed time and care and attention. It is pour duty to empower them.
Impact on My Profession:
Since I am a sociologist and is presently working in the child care and child
health system. Therefore, while working on the children, I also came across the
differently abled children, and it is then that I understood and gained a clear
perspective of the types and needs of the special children and also gained a
perspective regarding the legal attributes related to the special children.

I am currently working with a non- governmental organization, in
the child care and child health division, and for this, the understanding
of the concepts, types and needs of these children are much important

empower the students and also to understand their strong points so that
those areas can be explored, strengthened and used.
