The purpose of this study is to focus on the importance of diversity and inclusion in
school education of multi-ethnic as well as and secular Irish society. For this purpose, the first
section of this study, aims to define the significance of ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ in the primary
school curriculum. In this context this study also attempts to establish the links between the
theoretical notions of ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ as well as the values depicted in the 1999
Primary School Curriculum. The next section of this study focuses on the contribution of school
policies as well as practices in the framework suggested in the 1999 Primary School Curriculum.
The analysis has been done with reference to the History, Philosophy as well as psychology of
education. Finally, a connection between real life case studies and theme in the dialogue in case
of Philosophy of Education, has been established.
‘Diversity and Inclusion’ in the primary school curriculum’
Generally, the curriculum for primary school are designed for helping the children who study in
any primary schools more conscious about the ways students made to face challenges and learn
from them.

Diversity and Inclusion’ arises in case of a culture or country which is enriched with the
variations rules as well as norms, of various culture and where society consist of people of
different ethnic as well as religious background. IN this case the ethnical diversity also indicates
to the travelers or people who have migrated from other countries.. Generally, the curriculum for
primary school are designed for helping the children who study in any primary schools more
conscious about the ways students made to face challenges and learn from them. Diversity and
Inclusion’ is one of the approaches, of educating primary school children. In this case, refers to
the importance of the concept of Diversity and Inclusion’. Diversity matters in the classroom,

Importance in school curriculum:
A school curriculum is very important to the tender-aged primary school children.
Diversity management is one of the school curriculum. Diversity and Inclusion’ is one of the
approaches, of educating primary school children. In this case, refers to the importance of the
concept of Diversity and Inclusion’. Diversity matters in the classroom, specially, in the case of
primary education, of Irish society, because it will help school children to learn to adjust with
peers from different, lingual, religious or cultural background. Hence, the significance of
including both the factors diversity as well as inclusion, in school curriculum is that, they need to
inculcate love acceptance and acceptance for a culturally diverse society and also needs to
understands what are the ways a cultural as ethnically diverse society is facilitating the growth of

The links between the theoretical concepts of Diversity and Inclusion and the
values of the 1999 Primary School Curriculum
According to the theoretical concepts of diversity & inclusion, there is a strong link
between links between the theoretical concepts of Diversity and Inclusion and the values of the
1999 Primary School Curriculum. As per the theoretical concepts of diversity & inclusion, the
students should be encouraged to participate in diversity management programs undertaken by
the school, in which they need to perform with their peers who are from different cultural as well
as lingual background. They will get points depending on their collaboration as swell as
coordination with their peers who are from different cultural, ethnic, religious or linguistic back-
ground (Stables 2017).
As per the conflict as well as functionalist theory, it can be said that, the inclusion of the
subject of ‘cultural diversity is a highly debatable topic, while deciding school curriculum.
According to the conflict theory, the inclusion of the diversity is not always necessary in
designing the curriculum for schoolchildren. If there is diversity in the society, to which the
student belong is diverse in terms of culture or ethnicity, or, if they student has to deal with the
conflicting situation arising due to diversity as there is cultural , ethnic as well as language
diversity, in the country; then only, the subject of diversity should be focused in the school
curriculum , in order to teach the young generation to avoid conflicts related to diversity and
supporting the multi-cultural ambience.
As per the functionalist theory, it can be said that, there are several factors that boosts a
society to be culturally., an it is the natural function of a country or sociiuety to assimilate with
different culture language anf race as well. Diversity and Inclusion’ arises in case of a culture or

practices only if they receive guidance both from the teachers and parents as well. In this
context, the improvement of a primary school student is attributed to the regular conversation
between parents as well ads teachers about the development observed in their child and also the
areas that can be achieved further, a link can also be established with school practices & policies-
methodologies, communications between school members i.e teachers, children,
parents/guardians, other members e.g. boards of management.

It can be linked to the theme of dialogue in philosophy of Education.
Linking the subject of diversity and its inclusion with philosophy of education it can be
said that,. Philosophy of education supports the indulgence of the variation in education. More
specifically it can be said that, As per the theoretical concepts of diversity & inclusion, the
students should be encouraged to participate in diversity management programs undertaken by
the school, in which they need to perform with their peers who are from different cultural as well
as lingual background. They will get points depending on their collaboration as swell as
coordination with their peers who are from different cultural, ethnic, religious or linguistic back-
ground.
As per the conflict as well as functionalist theory, it can be said that, the inclusion of the
