1SOCIOLOGY
The working profile of a human service worker is diverse in nature. The professionals
of the human services has a very broad role in the sector of the social services. Professionals
engaged in the field of the human services works towards meeting the needs or the
requirements of the human beings towards the challenges they face in their daily life. The
essay will highlight the scenario of working as the domestic violence counsellor at the local
NGO. It is to be noted that domestic violence is a significant part of the issue of the society
and serves as one of the major sector of the human service professional.
While working as domestic violence counsellor in local NGO, my domain and the
field of practise are associated and connected with the social services and the advocacy
groups of the domestic violence. The field of practise in social work which aims towards the
welfare of the targeted group of people in the economy (World Health Organization, 2017). I
generally interact and work with people who are the victims of the domestic violence for
initiating help to them for getting access to the services that they have acquired. It is one of
the crucial part of my job to educate the people specifically the targeted group of population,
the women and the children regarding the issue.
The targeted population for the practise of the domestic violence counsellor in the
local NGO is women and the children in the economy specifically belonging from the lower
income families of the economy. Apart from the women and the children, the elderly group
of people and the disabled people of the families are included in the population. This is
because these people are also the victim of domestic violence. The concept of the domestic
violence does not only involve the physical violence but a way of acquiring power and
dominance in relation.
As a human service workers in the field of domestic violence counsellor some of the
practice approaches that would be appropriate is the interview with the victims or clients, the

effective determination of the victims of domestic violence or the people having risks of
becoming victims (Gordon, 2016). Furthermore initiating help to the clients for facing the
domestic violence together with the improvement of the their situations, taking of one to one
therapy sessions with the clients for initiating support of the meetings with the groups are
some of the practical approaches that needs to be taken. Furthermore arrangements of shelter
for battered women and opportunities for employment for the victims of domestic violence
are some of the practical approaches for this social service (Bouffard & Zedaker, 2016). As
the counsellor of the domestic violence of an NGO it is my duty to provide assistance to the
victims in their need. I interview with these people for understanding their mental stage , and
the scenario of the repeated crime and the challenges they have been facing in their house by
their partners or from other family members.
