1SOCIAL WORK THEORY
Society is where the human beings themselves lives in. As the members of a
particular society themselves, the human beings have to face a number of social issues
themselves. However, it can be said that sometimes these social issues can reach a stage
where the situation might get serious itself. In this case, special measures in the form of social
work might be taken in order to solve the problems which have been caused in the society by
them. One such social issue is domestic violence. A serious issue like domestic violence
indeed calls for social action to be undertaken for the solving of the problems caused by
domestic violations itself.
The purpose of this essay is to describe about the domestic violence and the
importance of the group work and the relevance of the experience to the practice of the
social work itself.
Domestic Violence is one of the serious issues which the societies of the world are
facing in the present times itself. Domestic Violence is a very old issue which had been
inflicted on the women of the society for a long period of time itself. This is mainly done to
prevent the women of the society to think and act on their own terms (Halket et. all, 2015).
The concept of the domestic violence is important because it is a very old rule in itself which
was allowed by the Roman Catholic Church itself. In the 15th Century itself, the Catholic
Church introduced a rule called “the rule of thumb itself” which allowed a human being to
beat his wife for various purposes itself. However, it can be said by the readers that since the
start of the changes of law in the year 1870, it can be said that the problems of domestic
violence and violence against people are considered to be criminally offensive (Browne,
2016).
Domestic information can be included under a number of different categories which
includes the social, historical, cultural as well as the political overviews of the problems

caused by the issue of the domestic violence in the world itself. These factors can help the
readers of the essay to understand the problems of domestic violence and how these problems
caused by that of the domestic violence can be solved by the social actions themselves. It is
worth noting in this case that the AASW has established a number of code and ethics which
need to be maintained by the people (Browne, 2016). These policies if implemented by the
social workers themselves, will play an important in helping the people to understand the
problems of domestic violence itself. The concept of the violence can be best understood by
the process of the self-reflection of the process which is to be taken by the social workers
themselves.
From the articles presented in regarding to the subject matter of the domestic violence
presented to the readers themselves, I feel that the best way to deal with the subject matter of
the domestic violence is to first understand what domestic violence is all about. (Chowdhury
et. all, 2014) In addition to this, I feel that the group members of the team can discuss with
themselves on this subject matter and then decide on the various functions which each of
them would perform for themselves. This includes finding out all important information
about the important cases of the domestic violence (Halket et. all,2014). In addition to this., I
feel the group members would find it useful to exchange information about their findings.
This I feel would be an important step for the members of the team because it will help them
not to miss out on any important numbers themselves.
Once all these steps are over, the next steps which are to be taken by the group is to
find pout any victims of domestic violence (if any in their neighbourhood) or in the local
areas itself and conduct interviews of those persons themselves (Stoever, 2014). This is
because I feel that it will be a very good step for the group as it will give them a first-hand
account of what these victims have gone through during the time of the violence which was
inflicted on these persons themselves. However, I also feel that it is very important in the

way in which the interview is being conducted to the interviewee as the most of the survivors
of the domestic violence will not feel comfortable discussing about their experience. Thus,
after the getting the first-hand account from the interviewees themselves, it will be the time
for the group to conduct the role play themselves.
In the role play, the team members can play the role of different characters and enact
a scene of domestic violence in which the one of the characters can be the victim of the
domestic violence itself. Among the other characters, can be the offender, a witness a social
worker and a policer officer itself. The role play can be about a scenario inflicts some kind of
domestic violence (physical, emotional etc.) A witness notices the violence being inflicted on
the subject and informs the social worker who arrives on the scene with the police officer.
The accuser gets arrested and fined by the police and then the social worker can face the
audience with all the other characters in the play itself and inform them about the various ills
of domestic violence and how it affects the people in the society while at the same time
reminding them about the various punishments and penalties which might be inflicted on the
individuals as mentioned by the AASW. This is what the role play will be for the group itself.
Thus, from the above discussions, it can be said that the concepts of domestic
violence is a serious issue in the present society which needs to be considered by the
members of the society themselves. Steps must be taken by the members of the society to
make sure that the problems of the domestic violence in the society can be removed from the
society as soon as possible so that the members of the society can peacefully without getting
threatened by the situations of the domestic violence itself.
