Sustainable Development Goals Report
In 2015, the sustainable development goals (SDGs) are accepted by all United
Stations Members States representing a universal and new set of objectives, aims and
indicators established for the next 15 years. SDGs includes 17 initiatives starting from
eliminating poverty, zero hunger policies, well health and happiness, quality education and so
forth (sdgcompass.org, 2015). The SDGs are significant as they present a dominant advocacy
platform to help the enactment and the monitoring of the UN resolution on the rights of
individuals with disabilities. It is also true that every individual can make a difference and
bring a positive change in the world, however, it requires them to set realistic goals firstly,
and then to ultimately follow their passion towards achieving those goals.
In order to develop a positive, critical, aware and daring attitude towards the SDGs
goals, one needs to understand that these goals presents a unique and vital challenge for
nations around the world and also carries bigger investment opportunities with tackling the
most pressing environmental and social challenges for this time. In addition, setting of goals
is vital for the success of business and therefore, it is necessary to foster shared priorities and
better performance across the enterprises (Morton, Pencheon & Squires, 2017). It further
needs aligning organisation goals with the SDGs and here, leadership role also plays a
significant role in developing such attitude together with expressing the commitment to
sustainable development.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) expanding the challenges needs to be
addressed so as to diminish poverty and embracing wide range of interconnected goals
through the economic, social and environmental extents of sustainable development. The
SDGs represents as formal inducement for all and to innovate jointly at pace and scale while
identifying challenges, government and businesses together facilitate rising indication of the

various potentials positive interactions amid dissimilar objectives. It is also necessary to
identify political and practical significant of SDGs together with challenges behind solving
them and it can rightly be done by knowing what preceded them i.e. the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) and accordingly compare the performance with justifying goals
under selected priorities (Morton, Pencheon & Squires, 2017). It helps in setting the shared
problems which only collective actions internationally can resolve including clear messages
and approaches.
The SDGs goals also significantly rest on the identification and acknowledgement of
the responsibility of all businesses irrespective of their scale, industry or place. It is necessary
for them to uphold minimum standards as a baseline expectation and align their corporate and
functional level strategies with the new roadmap in SDGs positively. Taking example of one
of the largest telecommunication company of UAE, Etisalat’s 2018 sustainability report is
brought into line to national and global priorities including the UN SDGs and the UAE
Vision 2021, to ensure sustainable development and shape a robust economy and an inspired
society (etisalat.com, 2018). In addition, the business also has a key role to adopt innovation
as a driver towards SGDs and relies their activities and actions upon clean energy, climate-
smart agriculture and building close partnership with communities and government.
