2NEED FOR COMMUNICATION AND DEPENDENCY IN PROFESSIONS
The nursing profession has a unique role on patient health care and assessment of health
status of the patient. Nurses focus on helping the patients to fulfil their need in medical care.
They also provide physical, emotional, cognitive, spiritual and social support to the patient. They
provide a hand-on care to the ill and injured patients and administer proper medication and
treatment under the supervision of the doctor. They also regulates the intravenous lines,
observing patients, maintaining records of the patient health condition and reporting them to the
doctor. The study will discuss the responsibilities of an efficient nurse (Bogaert et al., 2013). It
will discuss how the nurse treats the patient and help them to cure the disease. The study will
also discuss about another profession related to this profession. It will discuss about the role and
responsibility of a doctor. The study will briefly hi-light the working of a nurse and doctor
together and their interdependency and communications in their professional field.
I want to go for the profession of nursing, since childhood I had a deep connection
and empathy for this profession. The role that a nurse plays in the patient’s life is extremely
important. The nurse nurtures the patients with tenderness and care and helps them to recover the
disease. I believe chemical medication alone is not sufficient to cure a disease in a patient. The
nurse plays a unique role of treating the patient and supporting the patient emotionally,
spiritually and helps them to recover. Hence, I have decided to take up this noble profession in
my life.
A person who can keep patience and deal with complicacy will be suited for this
profession. The minimum requirement for a registered nurse is a diploma degree, associate
degree program or a diploma in the nursing course. The person must have a social interest and
tends to help people. A person who is centred and concerned about themselves should not go for
this profession. The person must be strong by nerve to handle critical cases and face harsh

situations like accident cases and burn injuries. The nurses play an important role in medical unit
as they deal with the day to day issues faced by the patients (Masters, 2015). They give support,
advice the patients, care for their minor issues, maintains the records of the patients and reports
to the doctors for further treatment and medications.
Another profession related to this profession is, Doctor. The doctors are the core part of
the medical unit. They care for the patient’s safety, provide quality treatment, give best
medication and cure the patient’s disease.
Dedicated people who tend to give a lot of hard work and time to their profession take the
profession of a doctor. This profession has no time limitation and has to work at any time of the
day. The doctors are the saviour for the patients and hence, they are required whenever there is a
urgency or need. The course for becoming a doctor is five years, after this they can study further
for specialization. The doctors are such a profession that often has to sacrifice their social life,
family life for their profession. However, it is not necessary that a doctor has to work only for the
society, even they have a personal life but their dedication and work life is much more stressful
than any other profession.
The role of a doctor is extremely dedicated to the society. Human life is dependent on
this profession. The doctor can cure a patient and save their life. The responsibility of a doctor is
to scrutinise the disease in a patient, suggest required medications and relieve them from the
disease. A doctor is a profession who is concerned to promote, maintain, treat and restore the
health of the diseased person. The doctor and the nurse are the two profession who has a
complete role to play for determining the living scope for an individual. They spread awareness
about the welfare of mankind and helps them to recover from severe disease or physical

condition. I have seen how the doctor handles severe conditions like accident cases, burnt cases.
It the doctor who takes the risk and strength to face the crucial scenes and provide proper
treatment to the patients and give them a normal lifestyle.
The profession of the doctor and the nurse is inter-related and needs to communicate with
each other for a better result in the treatment. The doctors provide guidelines and medications to
the patients. They instruct the nurses and they make sure to take the responsibility of the patient
and continue the treatment them as per the doctors instruction. It is very important for these two
professions to communicate with each other. A single misconduct and misunderstanding can lead
to confusion and loss, including death. The two professions are highly dependent in each other as
they handle the patient with a co-ordination and understanding between themsleves. The
combined work of a doctor and a nurse helps the patient to get proper diagnosis, medication,
care, suggestion, support, treatment (Hughes, 2017). The nurse continuously reports the doctors
about the patient’s condition and it makes easier for the doctor to understand the condition.
According to the nurse’s report and analysis, the doctor proceeds with the treatment and gives
required medicines. The doctors alone cannot handle a patient in a severe condition when the
patient requires high medical assessment and care. The nurse plays an important role to treat the
patient on behalf of the doctor and treats the patients. If there is a gap in communication between
them then the scope of risk becomes extremely high. When the doctor is providing proper
instruction to the nurse, it is her responsibility to abide by it. If the information is misheard or
misunderstood then the medications will not be appropriate and the treatment procedures will not
be adequate (Matsuoka et al., 2016). This can lead to the death of the patient. Among all the
professions these are a vital profession, the society is completely dependent in this combined

profession for their well-being and life. Thus, proper communication and dependency among this
profession is a necessity.
To conclude it can be said that the communication and co-operation in work life helps to
improve the work output in every field. The study has discussed about the importance of
communication between two job role of doctor and nurse. It has shown how important it is to
communicate during a treatment of a patient. The communication creates a better understanding
and result in the work place and reduces the scope of confusion. In the medical department the
role of the doctor and nurse plays a vital role who has to communicate while working to provide
the best treatment to the student. A well-organized work environment always has a well-
managed communication system that enhances a proper working of the entire system that gives a
better outcome.
