DRUG PAPER 2
Introduction
The nation's number one health problem is the addiction to alcohol in conjunction
with other drugs. Behold, the addiction can be effectively treated and managed in various
treatment facilities. Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is the name of the Treatment facility
under our discussion. For over 70 years, Hazelden Betty Ford's treatment facility center has
been in existence and at the forefront in providing lifesaving, specialized services, and
compassion to help people walk through addiction and find freedom (White, 2015).
Nonetheless, the facility is well known for offering counseling to alcohol and other drugs at
large. To help understand the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, below are a detailed
discussion of the various aspects of inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, detox, and
special population.
Inpatient Treatment
Inpatient treatment helps in providing the highest levels of rehab services to the
victims diagnosed with addiction as a result of drugs and alcohol (Timko et al., 2019).
Consequently, inpatient treatment is associated with medical detox, together with integrated
mental heal services. These services are referred to as inpatient drug rehab programs. At our
facility of discussion (Hazelden Betty Ford), with a good understanding of the victims'
situation, it necessitates the beginning of the impatient treatment for the substance abuse
(Timko et al., 2019). The medical team within the facility helps in evaluation of the medical
health, mental and chemical usage that helps them in designing of individual rehab plan.1
Additionally, if permission granted at this juncture, the care providers in the facilities will not

hesitate to talk with the members of the patient's family for consultation in addressing
patients' needs and challenges. However, since addiction is termed a disease and involves a
process to heal, at the Hazelden facility, they offer a team that always walks together with the
patients through the holistic healing journey. Such team members ma includes physician,
nurses, psychologist, nutritionist, among others.
Outpatient Treatment
Unlike in inpatient treatment, which causes many distractions in terms of work
schedules, school attendances, and keeping one away from the responsibilities, when one
thinks of all this, the ideal options lie to the outpatient treatment (White, 2015).2 Also,
outpatient treatment sounds the most effective treatment since it depends on the patient's
severity of the abused substance and other related health and mental complications.
Consequently, outpatient treatment is categorized into two, high intensity and low-intensity
patients (White, 2015). High-intensity patient categories are those with a maximum level of
alcohol and drug addiction. In contrast, low-intensity patient categories require limited
clinical care since their addiction rate is not severe.
Similarly, outpatient treatment does well for those with mild and moderate symptoms.
Concerning this, Hazelden facility offers different outpatient rehab levels so as they can be
able to transit progressively from those who have intense therapy to less intense therapy
providing a way of managing patients' recovery even in limited clinical support (White,
2015). Furthermore, there are set days in a week in the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation,
where patients tend to go for the services since they cannot be monitored 24/7.
Detox
Detoxification is a process involved in the flushing of abused substances in the body
and enhancing the management of the withdrawal symptoms (Glaser, 2015). Drug detox
counts as the first stage to the recovery of substance use and the disorders. Detox helps in the

body from healing to the abused substances. If any help is asked from the Hazelden facility,
they have a confidential phone assessment to confirm the patient's sincerity. It is then
followed with the facility's invitation, and if you find it's the right fit for you, you end up for a
four-day stay in the facility.
According to Glaser et al. (2015), The detox process always starts with the specialists
(medical doctor) to ensure if there is any needed intervention. The flushing of the chemicals
in the body(detox) is always an uncomfortable experience if there is no medical care
specialist (Glaser, 2015). The specialist gives directions on how the detox can be done, and
through the assistance, it helps eliminate the discomfort and other cravings resulting from
drugs. Within the Hazelden facility, the specialties always work with their patients to ensure
that their discomfort level gets evaluated and necessary medication administered if need be to
have their discomfort and cravings addressed as affirmed by Glaser. (2015).
To help achieve this success, the medical staff within the Hazelden facility ensures
that their patients get medically monitored 24/7 until they are declared stable enough to
handle themselves. To enhance continued monitoring of the patients even after giving the
green light to join other patients, they engage in some activities (Weber et al., 2018). Such
activities include spiritual care, where the victims get supported spiritually to enhance their
hope of recovery (Glaser, 2015). Additionally, involvement in family program participants
which contributes to them feeling loved and appreciated. Behold, group therapies, which, in
return, help address the chemical health of the patients.3 These therapies are science-based,
and evidence, helping the patients stay sober (Glaser, 2015). Thus, through cognitive

behavior therapy, twelve-step facilitation, and solution-based therapy maintain the victim's
health after the detoxification process.
Special population
The special population is categorized in various aspects such as women, older adults,
and teen and young rehabilitation. From the highlighted population, let's focus on women on
drugs and the process taken by the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation to ensure they are taken
through the rehabilitation process (Bahamondes et al., 2015). Management of one's
expectation should always run at the back of people's minds. Many of the women who end up
in drug abuse and alcohol are a result of failure to manage their expectations. According to
research since the 1980s, it has been greatly observed with a lot of concern that women have
reached higher levels of substance abuse such as marijuana, opioids, and cocaine
(Bahamondes et al., 2015). The diagnosed dependence pattern at Hazelden Betty Ford
Foundation shows that women are so much into alcohol dependence. Since treatment of the
addiction to recovery is a process and it takes time, the facility chips in and enroll the victims
of addiction through which they will walk together with them along their holistic healing
journey (Bahamondes et al., 2015). Most of the affected population are mostly the teen and
young women since they are mostly non-judgemental and at their low part of their life during
that moment. Through special education, rehabilitation, and spiritual support, as provided by
the facility, helps them to overcome the addiction and enjoy the freedom of being sober.
Conclusion
Drugs and other substance abuse stand to be the most critical problem with the
majority in the world. Many engage themselves in drug abuse due to their various reasons,
which results in addictions. Besides, addiction is not the end of everything. Those affected
with addiction should not worry since there is hope after addictions. Facilities such as
Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation offers counseling services to those who are victims of
behavior therapy, twelve-step facilitation, and solution-based therapy maintain the victim's

addiction as a result of drug abuse. Through their therapies, inpatient and outpatient
treatment, and detox treatment, the majority can recover since they are not left alone by the
medical staff until they can stand for themselves. Despite the Hazelden facility's solutions, it
is always good to keep off from drugs and alcohol abuse since the end repercussion is always
negative.
