AI Summary
This report presents the findings of a survey conducted by a student at Dubai Men's College (DMC) to investigate smartphone usage among its students. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing a questionnaire with demographic questions, Likert scale statements, and open-ended questions. The survey gathered responses from 30 students, primarily male, and explored aspects such as daily smartphone usage hours, the perceived impact of smartphones on learning, and their potential to replace laptops. The results revealed that smartphones are widely used by DMC students, often for several hours daily, and are perceived as beneficial for completing work and accessing educational resources. However, the survey also highlighted concerns about potential negative impacts on eyesight and the misuse of smartphones. The report concludes with a discussion of the findings, challenges encountered, and references used in the study.

Definition of Terms
Smartphone
“A smartphone is a mobile phone with highly advanced features. A typical smartphone has a high-
resolution touch screen display, WiFi connectivity, Web browsing capabilities, and the ability to accept
sophisticated applications. The majority of these devices run on any of these popular mobile operating
systems: Android, Symbian, iOS, BlackBerry OS and Windows Mobile. (“What is a Smartphone?”,n.d)
Pie Chart
“A pie chart displays data, information, and statistics in an easy-to-read 'pie-slice' format with varying
slice sizes telling you how much of one data element exists. The bigger the slice, the more of that data
was gathered.” (Alcocer, p. 1)
Method
Mixed Methods
“Mixed methods research is a methodology for conducting research that involves collecting,
analysing and integrating quantitative (e.g., experiments, surveys) and qualitative (e.g., focus
groups, interviews) research. This approach to research is used when this integration provides a
better understanding of the research problem than either of each alone.” Ltd, W. O. (n.d.).
