Executive Summary
Leadership is a way of motivating and encouraging people with winning their heart. A
leader is generally leading a group of people or an organisation with an intention to
encourage people that organisational or team goals can easily be achieved. The leader
determines the success or failure of his/her followers or an organisation. A leader is not
always belongs to the top level of an organisation rather it also occurs from the lower level of
the organisation. This paper will help me to develop new leadership skills that are essential to
become a good leader in future. The development of plan is based on self-assessment and
evaluation result, which is derived from Gallup strength finder test and Big five personality
test of leadership. However, the leadership development plan is based on Boyatzis’
International Change Model that will help me to enhance my skills and knowledge in next
five years and that further help me to become a successful leader.

Introduction
A leader is a person who motivates and encourages other people towards the
organisational goal or objective. A leader not only motivates to achieve organisational goals
rather it encourages people for achieving their self-goals as well (Boyatzis & Cavanagh,
2018). Leadership is generally defined a key skill in a person to lead and motivate a group of
people or any organisation in comprehensive manner and enables the people to understand
their responsibility and accountability. However, leadership helps the people to move forward
towards their goals and ensure success in their life or for the organisation in which they work
(Conger, 2015). This report is based on my own leadership style, which is influenced by
many leadership models and theories. This report also includes the result of Gallup Strength
finder test that helped me to analyse my leadership skills. The result of the test was a
surprised for me because some of the leadership skills I have already known and some
outcomes of the result have surprised me. This report helps me to find out my strengths and
weakness of my leadership style. However, this report includes a development plan that will
help me to overcome my weakness and enhanced my leadership skills in future.
Challenges in my leadership Style
There are few challenges that I faced in my leadership style are as follow:
Building Team and Teamwork: As a pharmacy in-charge, I feel that building team
is one of the tough works and I feel difficulties in this work. Building team is a requirement
of effective team performance and success. However, lack of coordination, integration, and
support are the primary requirement to build an effective team.
Train and Educate colleagues: Educating people and staff about their roles and
responsibility is necessary for successful operation of any business (Lu & Hsiao, 2010).
However, I feel that I have faced many difficulties in handling people and educate them to do
the job. Sometimes people fail to perform their responsibility and avoid their accountability
from the work. In such a situation, educating people and staff is necessary for a leader to
ensure success of the organisation.
Relationship Building: Building relationship with pharmaceutical companies is
really a big challenge for a leader because it is really a challenging to maintain a good
relationship with people while competition is too high in the industry. Every competitor

provides more benefits and incentive packages to people to attract the talent. In such a
situation, managing relationship with employees and pharmaceutical companies is a difficult
task.
Development of Managerial Skills: The development of managerial skill is also
required for a leader to manage the people and observing their actions (Ardichvili,
NattochDag, & Manderscheid, 2016). I have already some managerial skills that helped me in
my life to perform lots of specific works but some skills needed to be polish to become a
good leader in future.
Gallup Strength Finder Test analysis and Summary
When I assessed my leadership style Gallup strength finder model, I found that I have
many positive skills of leadership that can help me to become a successful leader in future.
The findings of Gallup strength finder model are as follow:
Connectedness: This skill is required for a leader to connect with people and co-
operate them in their work. This skill generally required in a leader to work in a team (Denis,
Langley, & Sergi, 2012). This skill helps me to gain trust of people and it is more usual in my
life that I used to connect with people and understand them that what they want to say. This
skill helps to connect with people (Dugan & Komives, 2010). I am friendly with people and
usually my openness helps me to collaborate and communicate with people in easy way.
Analytical: This theme of the model shows my personal style of thinking. I believe in
practical approach to understand the concern rather than emotionally or heartily. I have
worked as a registered pharmacist and the experience I have gained from my past wok that
concentrating on facts is much better than thinking emotionally on the current situation.
Responsibility: A leader should be responsible and set standards for other so other
people can follow the leader (McKeown & Carey, 2015). After analysing my leadership
skills, I found that I am a responsible person and I always prefer to act in responsible manner
in every decision-making or action that I take in my life.
Includer: This trait helps me to accept people as a friend and co-operate them in the
work. This skill is inbuilt in my personality and I have found that I always accept people in
my work. I love to connect people and accept their opinion for the successful achievement of
my goals or team goals. I feel comfortable in multicultural team and the best example of it is
assignment preparation when a group people work together to accomplish a project.

Strategic: People who talented with strategic them are more expert in doing things in
multiple ways. These types of people have multiple of plan to accomplish a single project or
assignment (McCleskey, 2014). These types of people are more comfortable in dealing with
pressure situation and handling the problem during the task. This personality trait helps me to
solve the problem in a convincing way and define my personality that I believe in positive
results. This is an uncover aspect of my personality that surprised me.
Summary of Big-five personality Test
When I assess my personality on Big five personality test then I found various interesting
facts about my personality and leadership style, which are as follow:
1. Openness: This type of people always finds new ideas and discovering new ways for
solving problems (Bullock, 2010). This trait is closely apply on me and on my
leadership style, as I always tries to solve the problem with unique ideas and
innovative opinions.
2. Conscientiousness: The higher score in this trait shows the capability of a person
shows the control over self-discipline. I feel that I am more conscientiousness about
my gaols and I think that self-discipline is necessary to accomplish any goal.
3. Extraversion: These types of people are more social and friendly and this trait is
exactly match with my personality (Martin, Oades, & Caputi, 2014). I am friendly in
nature and social who believes that establishing relationship with people is the way
that shows you your destination.
4. Agreeableness: These types of people look after the people and care for their interest
first rather than own interest. These types of people are normally more cooperative in
nature. I found that this trait matches with my personality as I usually train and
educate my staff and people for their better performance.
5. Neuroticism: This trait shows the anxiety and angry behaviour of people. This type
of people always feels pressure in tough work or in challenging task (Phillips, Ray, &
Phillips, 2016). However, I used to be cool and calm in a tough situation and I found
that this is the need of any leader to become a successful leader in future. A leader
must be cool and patience to handle the situation.

Leadership Development Plan
As I have analysed my own leadership style then I found that I am more comfortable
in teamwork. I love to support other people and understand their problems. The strength of
my leadership style is that I love to connect with people. When I analysed my leadership
personality on Gallup model, I have found that most of my leadership skills are match with
the traits of an authentic leader. An authentic leader is a person who motivates and
encourages people and builds the leadership traits in people so they can achieve any
impossible target of the organisation (Passmore, Holloway, and Rawle-Cope, 2010). Four
years back when I was working as a pharmacy in-charge in a healthcare organisation in India,
I have faced number of challenges during my job. These challenges helped me to learn many
leadership skills and tactics that helped me to act responsibly and honestly even in a difficult
and tough situation. These activities helped me to perform the role of leader and make
coordination among the team members to ensure the success of whole team. However, the
group assignment, class participation, group presentation, and activities in the class are some
of the beneficial exercise in the course that helps a person like me to improve and polish
leadership skills and capabilities.
Boyatzis’ International Change Model (Five Years Plan)
This model was developed by the Richard Boyatzis, who was a professor in
psychology and organisational behaviour department of Case Western Reserve University in
Cleveland (Grint, Jones, Holt, & Storey, 2016). This model will help me to develop my
leadership style and enhance my skills to become a successful leader. According to this
leadership development model, I can bring sustainable change in my leadership style and help
me to change my behaviour and thinking towards the resonant leadership. This is a five-stage
process of leadership development that can help me to enhance my leadership skills and
capabilities to become an effective leader in future:

(Source: Komives, & Wagner, 2016)
Step 1: My ideal Self
The first step of Boyatzis model is to assess about the nature and behaviour of self. As
I have found in my Gallup test that I am more connectedness and includer in nature, I always
prefer to connect with people and contribute in the team as a key member. Although I am
facing issues related to building relationship in during my pharmacy job, this step help me to
find out what I am and where I want to see myself after 5 years. As I am dealing with most of
the stuff in the organisation, I want to become manager in the organisation who leads a large
organisation. As I have worked as a pharmacy in-charge, I had to deal with many people in
the organisation including medical representatives to hospital staff. The daily interaction with
these people helped me to polish my leadership skills and style that is crucial for a leader to
become a successful person. Apart from this, I have learned many leadership skills while
studying Master of Public health (Advanced) through the class presentation, group projects,
and assignments. In such a situation, I found myself that I have capabilities of a successful
leader but I need to focus on my future goals. As per the big-five personality test assessment,
I found that I have all the essential traits of a successful leader and I can easily establish
relationship with people. As I have more score in openness and extraversion which is the
requirement to deal with people as a leader. I lead the team in my class and lead many group
presentations; I am on right way to become a successful leader in future. However,

sometimes I am thinking more practical than emotional but I need to work on emotional skills
as well that will help me to understand the feeling of my team members.
Step 2: My real self
As I have found that, I am a positive attitude person who believes in positive results. I
am always focusing on my team goals and trying to establish a good relationship with people
to achieve the target. I also educate and train people to achieve their self-goals and target.
This will not only help them to improve their personal performance rather it also help the
organisation to achieve the target. My friend has opinion about me that I am more practical
and technical in nature rather than theoretical, which is true about me. As I have practical
intention to accomplish a work and well understanding of issues related leadership, it will
help me to accomplish complicated task or assignment. However, I believe that I can improve
my leadership skills if I follow the suggestions of my friends and teammates. I should
consider their opinion about myself. Another positive feedback about my personality was that
I have capabilities to handle the pressure with cool and calm mind. This is the real and
essential requirement for an authentic leader. An authentic leader is a person who not only
motivates people rather never loses their patience in challenging situation (Boyatzis & Soler,
2012). As I have strong bonding with my partners and organisational people, I always ready
to work in a team with strong bonding and cooperative nature. As per the opinion of others, I
need to change my nature of giving priorities to my own ideas and opinions. I must consider
the opinion of others as well.
Step 3: My Personal Learning Agenda or Plan
To improve my leadership style I need to follow some of the great leaders like Narendra
Modi (PM of India). This person is too dedicated towards their work and is an inspiration of
all Indians (Day, Fleenor, Atwater, Sturm, & McKee, 2014). The commitment of this person
towards the work inspire me and encourage me that how I can set my target and work hard to
achieve my goals. The sacrifice, dedication, and hard work are some key features of a
successful leader. To improve and develop my leadership style, I will focus on reading books
on leadership, follow the footprints of some of the great leader of the world, and bring
changes in my nature and in my life to become a good leader. A leader not always motivates
or encourages people rather a successful leader must have an art of winning hearts of people.
As a leader, I also prefer and implement these mantras in my life. The autobiography and life
lesson of some of the great leader of the world always inspire me for doing great thing for
people. I am not a an emotional person rather I think practically but I always follow the

footprints of great leaders of the world like Mahatma Gandhi, Narendra Modi, Steve Jobs,
Nelson Mandela etc. The story of these people gives me so much inspiration and motivation
to bring change in my personality and work for people and set a standard for other people to
achieve their personal and organisational goals.
Step 4: Opportunities for Experimenting and Practising new behaviours
The new learning behaviour will help me to learn many leadership traits that can be
useful in my life. Although, it is necessary for me to execute the learning in proper ways so I
can archive success as per my desired goals. However, as I have dreamed to become a leader
of a pharmacist company, I used to execute these learning skills in that place. Apart from this,
I also want to implement these changes in my present life when I prepared any assignment or
presentation with the team members. There are lots of opportunities to implement these
learning skills in my life and job career. However, executing and implementing my daily life
help me to safely implement these behaviours and reduce the risk of embarrassment of
serious consequence of failure. The best place to execute these leadership traits with my
presentation and project team members (Dyck, & Lovelace, 2012). This will also help me to
accept the feedback of my friends and professors about the effective leadership style and
possible changes that are required to being a successful leader.
Step 5: People who can work and support in changing my behaviour
The contribution of people in developing leadership skills in an individual is so
crucial (Fiaz, Su, & Saqib, 2017). The friends and family members are so close to me and
they are also participating in my daily decision-makings. Apart from this, the professor can
suggest me that how I can improve my leadership styles through bringing specific changes in
my personality. The role of professors and friends are so crucial in developing appropriate
skills of a successful leader because they can provide the feedback about my personality and
leadership traits. This is the best opportunity for me to bring changes in my leadership style.
However, apart from this my colleagues in my profession and my superiors can also suggest
me to bring relevant changes for my leadership development. The feedback not only helps me
to bring appropriate changes and execute the suggestion in my life rather it also encourages
and motivate me to make decision with self-confidence.

Conclusion
In conclusion, it is essential for leader to evaluate their own personality traits and
bring improvement if required any. Self-evaluation is necessary for a leader to become a
successful leader in future. Evaluation and self-assessment of one’s own personality help the
individual to identify their own weakness and strength and helpful in elimination of the
weakness. From the above analysis, I have found that my leadership traits are beneficial for
