INTRODUCTION
Reflection is acknowledged as the essential part of the whole learning process that simply
specifies how an individual has learned lots of things and skills by their past experience.
Reflective learning is also seen as the part of the academics which supports individual in
developing the skills among scholar through which they can easily determine several skills and
knowledge that has been developed by them from their past experiences (Husebø, O'Regan and
Nestel, 2015). The present report is the reflective part of research protocol project developed on
the topic “To analyse the problems encountered by the spouse of the patient with dyslexia”. In
this section, experience of the individual who have developed this research protocol project
would be explained with the usage of Gibbs reflective framework.
MAIN BODY
I feel very happy and appreciated as I got opportunity to place my contribution in
conducting this investigation on the proposed topic “To analyse the problems encountered by the
spouse of the patient with dyslexia”. I have personally realised that Dyslexia is one of the major
health problem that have been seen across the world. Having dyslexia is not always the problem
for the individual but at the same time it has been analysed that in many cases this is
acknowledged as the problem for the close family members too as they are not able to manage
their regular based activity while living with the dyslexia person at the same place. From my
won experience it can be said that by conducting this investigation I have deeply developed my
knowledge on dyslexia and its influence over the person as well as their family members too
especially spouse. This developed knowledge on the core topic would definitely help me out in
conducting more effective research in the near future whenever I will get opportunity to conduct
investigation on the same topic. Along with this, I have personally realised by that by conducting
investigation on this topic I can easily develop understanding of the readers on the same topic.
the facts and information revealed with this study will also support individual having dyslexia
patient at their home. These people can easily find lot of things from the study that how they can
dyslexia patient and live their normal lifestyle with these people in appropriate manner. Dyslexia
is seen as the one of the emerging health issue worldwide that is affecting life of that particular
individual with this health issue along with their family members so that they can easily take
appropriate initiative in order to make their lifestyle smoother and better.

In order to conduct this investigation inappropriate manner, I have personally made use
of several techniques and tactics with the motive of executing whole work in systematic manner
within the provided time frame along with the authenticity. For conducting this investigation in
the systematic manner within the same alignment I have initially developed research aim,
objectives and questions with motive of converting this investigation into the simpler manner.
This developed aim and objectives has enhanced knowledge of the whole research team on the
core topic and also provided them support in executing all the associated work within the same
alignment only. After development of these I have further conducted an effective literature
review in which detailed information on the core topic has been explained with the different
perception of several authors and writers. In this section, I have personally made use of several
books, journals, online articles and other published data in order to find out detailed information
on the same topic with the inclusion of different perspective. Apart from this, for making my
investigation more authentic and liable I have personally made use of primary method of data
collection in the form of interview method. In this, total 20 respondents had been chosen by me
as the sample size who will answer the interview questions and whose revealed information
would be used by me for drawing valid research outcome. Here respondents are the individual
who was suffered from dyslexia in past or whose family member is suffering from dyslexia.
Furthermore, I have personally made use of inductive method in methodological section for
analysing overall information in the appropriate manner. All of the efforts placed by me on
conducting investigation on the core topic have cleared supported me in developing several skills
and knowledge that would further support me out in serving the society in appropriate manner
and also conducting more effective research in the near future whenever I will get opportunity
towards the same.
In order to express my own journey related to the conducting of this research protocol, I
had made use of Gibbs reflective model with the motive of determining all the learning that has
been acknowledged by me after conducting this investigation in the appropriate manner. Gibbs
reflective model has been explained below along with the explanation of their sub sections.
Gibbs Reflective Cycle
Gibbs reflective cycle is determined as the effective framework was present by Sir Graham
Gibbs in 1988. This framework clearly shows that the learning in individuals could be easily
developed the number of experiences attained by them while executing the assigned work to

them. This reflective cycle is highly cooperative exploring the overall experience of the
individual developed by them from the particular event or life situation (Potter, 2015). The
respective framework is also helpful on developing self knowledge of the individual that what
they have learned from the particular situation, how they have reacted in that particular situation,
which things were positive or belonging to their side and what was negative in the same situation
that have affected that particular individual a lot. Gibbs reflective cycle is consist of 5 different
stages which one by one clearly supports individual in expressing their journey related to the
particular situation from the starting time to the end time (Smith and Roberts, 2015). This also
includes learning, failures, and issues, experience all things that is felt by the person by
performing the work. With reference to my own experience related to conducting investigation
from the initial phase to the ending time. All the stages of this reflective cycle has been explained
as below that would clearly depict my strength as well as weaknesses related to the investigation
and its associated experiences.
Description: This is the acknowledged as the first and foremost stage of the Gibbs
reflective cycle which provides detailed knowledge about the individuals experiences in terms of
what was actually happened during that situation (Snowdon, 2018). By taking my own
consideration, it can be said that I have conducted investigation on the topic “To analyse the
problems encountered by the spouse of the patient with dyslexia”. Conducting investigation is
the part of my coursework in which teacher or tutor has provided us the topics on which we have
to conduct an appropriate research. Conducting research was seen as the completely new
experience for me as I have not conducted this in the past. Also, all the instruction related with
research were cleared out by the tutor only in the initial time. Even though the respective tutor
has provide me the learning material along with the instruction associated to the research in
online medium during the learning module but still I have personally made the notes of all the
points and tips given by the tutor towards the same. In addition to this, for conducting this
investigation in appropriate manner I have personally developed my own team who had later
supported me in conducting appropriate research in rightful manner on the chosen topic. for
conducting this research in appropriate form I have personally made use of both the primary and
secondary method of data collection so that I could have gather maximum information within the
provided time frame. While conducting this research I have conducted lots of meeting sessions
for the team members so that we can collaboratively perform the work associated with the

investigation in appropriate manner, Also, in these meetings all of us that is the team members
have discusses our core problems, issues, their related solutions, proposed outcomes, overall
procedure of performing the work, norms and ethical values that must be considered while
conducting investigation and many others. It can be later said that I have personally performed
the work of conducting investigation on the most emerging topic across the world as having the
Dyslexia creates lots of problems for the individual itself. The problems and issues are not only
limited with the dyslexia person but it simply places influence over their close family member
especially spouse.
Feeling: This is seen as the second most stage of the Gibbs reflective cycle which
provides clear and cut knowledge to the oneself about their actual feeling related to the particular
life situation or the event (Markkanen and Kuuskorpi, 2020). With reference to my own
experience of conducting investigation on the chosen topic “To analyse the problems
encountered by the spouse of the patient with dyslexia”, it can be said that I was having mix sort
of feeling at the time of conducting research from the starting phase to the ending time. I was
feeling very happy at the starting time this investigation as I got opportunity to conduct
investigation on the topic in which I too have interest. In personal life I have also seen many
people having dyslexia which is not only creating issues or barrier for them but at the same time
it was affecting their personal life too. Another reason which had developed excitement into at
the time of conducting this research was my strong communitarian and researching skill as with
them I could easily conduct more effective research and accomplish its proposed outcome in the
quicker time. Also, it can be further said that I was fond of reading and writing from the previous
days only. This had simply made it easier for me to gather detailed information on the proposed
topic and find out maximum information on the same and use it effectively for drawing valid
outcome on the chosen topic.. This had developed higher level of excitement in me before
conducting this research, but still with the passing course of time the feeling have changed a lot.
This is so because, the things were not the same as they were looking in the initial time. Here, it
can be said that when I have actually indulged into the process of conducting research I got
realise that there are many difficulties too. The main problems that have been determined by me
were related to team members as they had started created issues while working with one another.
The main reason behind their conflict was difference in the interest level of all individuals
working in the team towards the chosen topic. Another thing that has converted my feeling into
4

consciousness is related to the process of gathering information from the respondents. It can be
said that the chosen topic was quiet sensitive thus it made it higher difficulty for me to gather
maximum information on the proposed topic.
Evaluation: This is the third section of the Gibbs reflective cycle which clearly specifies
actual experience related to the particular situation. This stage simply talks about the positive and
negative experience related to the situation which has been experienced by the individual (Waltz,
2019). With reference to my own experience related to related to the situation of conducting
investigation as the part of my coursework, it can be said that there both the experiences
associated with the research. These types of experiences includes both the positive and negative.
The main positive experience related to my project of conducting investigation includes positive
support of team members, teachers and respondents. On the basis of my own experience, it can
be said that tutors of my college have supported me a lot in conducting research in systematic. It
can also be said that as my teacher knew that this is the very first time i am conducting
investigation. Thus, they have conducted detailed session for me where I can easily discuss my
queries and issues with them. Also, in order to clear the structure of protocol my teachers have
provided me sample of the scholars who have conducted this kind of research in the past and
scored good marks. Overall,, it can be said that teachers were highly cooperative and wants to
teach me how I can excel in this project and attain success in the quicker manner. Apart from
this, it can be further said that my co-workers that is team members were cooperative and having
spirit of learning new things for developing their skills and knowledge with the experience. The
positive support of the team members had made it easier for me to conduct appropriate research
and achieve valid outcome towards the goals and objectives related to the research protocol
project in quicker manner. In addition to this, it has further realised by me that things were
actually easier as the topic provided by the tutor was clear and emerging that has made it easier
for me to gather information on it in internet and other sources. On the other hand, while
emphasising on the negative experience related to the particular project, it can be said mainly I
had faced difficultly related to the project members who have worked with me. I have realised
that even though the overall the experience related to the project members was good but still due
to lack of experiences my team members have non willingly indulged into the situation which
have developed barrier for me. Along with this, it can be further said that team members have
faced issues related to the coordination with one another within the team. The main reason

behind this was that the team was completely new and due to lack of experience associated with
the performing of investigation it made it difficult for me as well as my team members to
coordinate with one another and execute whole research associated work in the systematic
manner. In addition to this, I can further said that I have also faced difficulty related to the
respondents too as they were not feeling comfortable in sharing their information with me as in
some manner they belief that I might not be the right person who must perform this work. This
had raised numerous of issues for me as due to non corporative behaviour of the respondents it
became difficult for me to accomplish project outcome in quicker manner.
Conclusion: This has been acknowledged as the fourth stage of Gibbs reflective cycle
which clearly specifies what alternative could have been performed by the individual while
performing the same work in order to mould the outcome in rightful manner (Harerimana, 2018)
(Ahmed, 2020). With reference to my own experience related to the project, it can be said that
the overall experience associated with this project was good but still I feel that if I could have
opted some alternative actions that it would have been easier for me to complete the whole work
in rightful manner. Along with this, I personally believe that I would have ask me tutor to allot
me experienced team who at least have experience related to investigation and how it could be
performed in the rightful manner so that they could have executed the work in rightful manner.
In addition to this, I also think that if I would have developed appropriate plan of executing all
the work then the result might have been more better as it would have been completed in the
systematic form. This plan would have guided my team members in the effective execution of
the whole work that could simply support them out in accomplishing project aim in the quicker
manner. In addition to this, it can be further said that if I would get opportunity to conduct
similar kind of research in the near future then I will definitely make use of present experience
and accomplish overall outcome in the quicker manner. Here, it can be further said that present
investigation has developed my communication skill, conflict management, time management,
team working, analytical, presentation, technical and many other skills that not only supports me
in conducting effective research but at the same time all of them collaboratively supports me out
in accomplishing research outcome in appropriate manner. Along with this, it has also been
analysed by me that usage of these skills would definitely help me out in conducting more
effective research in the near future and obtain their required outcome on the proposed research
problem in appropriate manner.

Action plan: This is the last stage of the Gibbs reflective model which clearly specifies
how individual can make use of their developed skills and knowledge in the near future
whenever they will get opportunity to the perform the same task or the similar sort of situation
occurs in the life again (Mahlanze, Sibiya and Govender, 2015). In context of my own learning
experience, it can be said I have learnt lots of skills from my own experience that that would
definitely support me out in conducting similar kind of investigation in the near future. I learnt
about problem-solving skills as during the report I faced issues that how I can carry out the study
and how I can achieve the task on time. The problem-solving skill help me to deal with the issues
and carry out activities associated with the project in a proper and best manner. I learnt about
time management skills and due to which I completed all the activities of my project in a given
time frame. In addition to this, time management skill also help me n my future to achieve
objectives in a stipulated time frame. I gain knowledge regarding how to do investigation and
how it can apply to different studies that leads to attainment of positive outcome as well. I
developed good communication and interaction skill while doing this project as it helps me in
gaining opportunities in my future. I learnt about how to gather information and select the useful
content from it in an effective manner. In addition to this, my confidence level has increase,
which helps me to conduct research properly in future.
On the basis of overall information that have been developed by me from this
investigation, it can be said that I would definitely memorise all the learning developed with this
investigation so that I can easily accomplish the project outcome in appropriate manner. Also, it
can be said that the learning experience related to this project would definitely support me out in
conducting similar kind of research in the near future.
CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned report, it has been analysed that reflective learning is
considered as the important form learning which simply develops understanding of individual on
their core strengths and weakness. Also, it has been further analysed that dyslexia is determined
as one of the major health problem that is not only affecting the individual but it places
influences over their family members too. Usage of Gibbs reflective model simply helps out in
reviewing one’s own experience and determining the learning developed by them with their own
experiences.
