INTRODUCTION
A fact-file is defined as a written document covering extensive information about a
specific topic (Ellis and Leopkey, 2021). This fact-file covers information on the formation of
UK based technology company Dyson. In addition to this the reason behind Dyson being
aspiration for future career is also included in this fact-file.
Timeline of Dyson
The idea of starting a company around vacuum cleaners came the entrepreneur James
Dyson in the late 1970's due to the dissatisfaction from current vacuum cleaning products in the
market.
James Dyson had educational background in the filed of engineering and design and was
confident that a better vacuum cleaning products can be made available to the consumer through
innovation. It took Dyson a decade and 5,000 prototypes to create successful improvement for
vacuum cleaning product, a bugless vacuum cleaner (Sir James Dyson: From barrows to
billions, 2021).
The company was founded in the year 1991 in United Kingdom. The first Dyson vacuum
cleaner was sold in UK in 1993 and was an instant success becoming the highest selling vacuum
cleaner in the country.
The next big moment for Dyson came in the year 2001 when the company directly
entered in the North American market where the company was previously selling by by licensing
the technology to Fantom Technologies.
In 2002 the company expanded their manufacturing capabilities in Asia with opening of
vacuum cleaning manufacturing plant in Malaysia. In the early 2000 the company continued
investment in Asian market to lower production costs of various products such as washing
machine and digital motors.
In the year 2016 Dyson launched a innovative hear dryer product which was created with
the help of nuclear weapons technology for developing a more efficient fan. This resulted in
creation of slim and lightweight hair-drying device which had 300% more efficiency in
comparison to to other dryers.
The launch of supersonic dryer was provided profitable success and gained international
success. In 2017 the company created a US headquarters which cemented its position in US

market as reliable technological appliance brand. The company improved Hair drying product
range in 2018 with introduction of curling Iron which draws on basis of aerospace physics
(Dyson, 2022). The innovative approach taken by Dyson to continuously improve product range
have made the company a world renowned brand in technological appliance industry.
In 2019 the company announced shift of UK headquarters to Singapore and also
announced plans to build electrical vehicle plant in the country (Dyson to move company HQ to
Singapore, 2019). Currently the company has not finished movement to Singapore plant which
will be finished at the end of 2022. This decision will enable the company to exploit the
technological infrastructure of the region and opportunities in expanding to electrical vehicle
production.
Future career aspirations related to the company
Dyson is one of the most innovative businesses which have been able to maintain streak
of success with various innovative product offering on a international scale. This swashes that
the company will be able to survive in the industry for long time period. Dyson offers suitable
opportunities to achieve career aspirations because of continued global success of the company.
Dyson also invests in building a talented workforce in order to create innovative
organizational culture. Recently Dyson has invested 31.5 million GBP in training and developing
a skilled workforce fit for future technological changes (Why Dyson is investing £31.5m into its
groundbreaking Institute to create a future fit workforce, 2017). This investment showcases
outlook of the company towards continuously improving skill-set of employees to achieve
organizational growth.
Dyson is suitable choice for achieving career aspirations because it prioritizes
development of skilled workforce to adapt to external environmental changes. Recruitment at
Dyson will provide opportunities for professional development along with active support from
leaders. Employment at Dyson will also enable individuals to learn from innovation focused
organizational culture which is not present in other businesses.
Dyson has also invested in setting headquarters in different markets which offer growth
opportunities such as US and Singapore. This strategy of the company to expand in new market
also offers global carer development opportunities which can help individuals in gaining
