INTRODUCTION
The main purpose of the report is to analyse the innovative environment of household
appliances industry. In today's modern business world, innovation is become vital to survive into
the market. People always look for something unique and creative from the companies to get
money with value of their purchase. Businesses have different aspects to bring innovation
whether in product, services or in workplace environment (Biemans, 2018). It enables many
opportunities into market to attract and retain customers for long period. The report is going to
present innovation history of Dyson. The company was established In United Kingdom in the
year 1991. Dyson sells all kinds of household appliances by regularly innovating new ideas and
features into their products. They mainly sells hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, air purifiers and
other electric appliances. The report will showcase the need of current capabilities for innovation
and also its requirement in future.

Dyson is a leading organisation of United Kingdom. It serves a huge variety of products
in household appliances. Their products are highly in demand as the company believes in regular
innovation and eliminate unnecessary products which do not work well. The company has more
than 12000 employees who contributes in the profits of company. The Dyson mainly innovates
with the creative mind of James Dyson who is the chief engineer of the company. Therefore,
there are many new products have been launched in the history of Dyson. The designing
engineers believes that, until there will not be identification of problems the product could not
get better and useful (Janjić, and Rađenović, 2019). In the year 1978, James Dyson gets
frustrated from the performance of a vacuum cleaner which made them unsatisfied as it was not
able to restore the suction due to having much coating of dust inside the vacuum bag. The
managers gets into the whole process of vacuum manufacturing in which they find that Giant
Cyclone system and analyse the measurements of sawmills. Then, they build a 30-foot model to
try it with the cardboard and it successfully worked with the vacuum cleaner with the help of

cyclone. The James Dyson has built their own vacuum cleaner that was known as a new cyclonic
vacuum technology to be first launched into the market. Apart from this, the company first
launch dual-cyclone vacuum with the name of DA 001. It took many innovation in the year 1993
and bring back the identical cleaner (Tidd, and Bessant, 2020). This idea was generated on the
basis of the demand of customers as they does not want transparent container to collect dust and
wastage. So that, the DC01 has took rise from 45% in the vacuum cleaner market. The company
also invested cylinder machines, root seven cyclone technology which have seven funnels.
The company has also created other technologies like Air blade hand dryer, air multiplier,
blade less fans and heaters. The company has expanded their manufacturing concerns into the
other parts of the world like Malaysia and Singapore. Dyson has manufactured its first ever
washing machines. This move was found to be much complex for the company as it would
reduce in the jobs. Therefore, the company has made changes in their supply chains as well to
source raw materials, production and distribution. The company also produced four million
digital motors in a year into Singapore market which has generated 11 million revenue. The
Dyson was about to produce the robotic vacuum cleaner but the managers has removed it from
production as it took much weight and performs slow functions. Apart from this, they have
launching 360 eye and Heuristic in 2021. For the constructive three years, the Dyson has
adopted a digital motor technology which would be suitable for the heart of cell. This was the
great invention in the history of Dyson (Kavadias, and Hutchison-Krupat, 2020). These digital
motor technology is a compact, easy to carry and highly efficient motor which give rise in 20%
of power density and improve efficiency of the vacuum cleaner. These all innovation get
successful with the appropriate experiments and research and development of the company.
Their main motive is to set the standards for the customer and provide them easy and convenient
facilities through serving great products.

into the new market. The company already known for its great innovation capabilities due to
having larger efficient machines, prototypes, motors and other particles which serve best

innovation performance of Dyson is taking rise into global market. They have highly demanded

brand image of company. James Dyson is about to launch the most intelligent vacuum cleaner
with the laser technology which collects the hidden dust from unseen areas. Mainly customer
demand for these types of facilities which clean deep areas that could not get cleaned by the
normal vacuums. So that, Dyson has took a thought over it and build a new technology that
remove, detect and eradicate unseen particles. In the current Covid-19 situation, people are
become more health conscious and focus on effective home cleaning. They are taking a step
towards getting healthy home which removes bacteria, germs or other harmful particles that
might harm children and other diagnosed patients. The new vacuum cleaner has high sensing
abilities which clean hairs fast from floors and detect dust. As the company has high market
share and financial stability (Guerra Guerra, 2018). The company has its capabilities to invest
more in the technology and bring new experiences for the customers. The company is looking for
taking major expansion mainly into Singapore, UK, Philippines and other emerging markets.
There are major innovation comes further into the future which are shown below:
The Dyson is going to invest more in the software, energy storages, batteries and more
motor development,. The company needs to put focus on these trendy products which are
yet needful into the market, the customer and other business organisation are looming for
the software who could be helpful for keeping their machines records, performance and
help in other business management. The company is ready to pay high salaries to the
engineers for this development as it will create a huge brand name in the Dyson history.
They wants to diversified their product line through going into Meta verse and make the
world highly innovative. Dyson is going to expand and focus on US and Asia by bringing
Artificial intelligence through machine learning and robotics.
The company wants to launch electric cars and vehicles into the market of Asia. This
would be a great example of sustainability as the company wants to make their high
standards of sustainability. All these plans are true for innovation in which Dyson put all
their new ideas and strategies to make it successful. The idea for electric cars has high
concern into market (Gómez Montoya, 2018). As people are waiting for this innovation
to get rid of petrol and diesel cars. It becomes highly ineffective for the environment and
economy. Dyson carrying out their research and development programmes in many
countries to take a next best step for the same.

In the Philippines, the Dyson wants to create a dedicated software hub in order to set their
brand name in the world of digital technology. The company wants to grow in all over
the market which will be helpful for them to analyse actions of people, connect with the
world and give convenient facilities across the countries.
In the year 2005, the company has faced a huge loss of $90 million due to the launch of
washing machines. This was a great failure as the drums were rotating into the opposite
direction and charged high operational cost. This shows that, the Dyson does not have
capabilities to invest into the washing machines without proper investment into the
machinery.
The innovative solution of the Dyson has a distinctive approach into market. Their
products are not initially experimented and then launched. Instead, the company first
launch it into market and believes in taking response from customer through its practical
use (Bokareva, and et.al 2021). This shows that, the success of their product could not be
predicted until it gets launched into market. Their strategy of continuous innovation make
them capable to beat other companies. This would only done through making right use of
right techniques as per the markets. The James Dyson has their ability to use innovative
ideas in different ways.
As per the Schumpeter's Innovation Theory, The managers the managers of the company
bring new policies in order to reduce the cost of production in order to make high
demands of their products into market. The Dyson does the same with their hair
straightners vacuum cleaners and other products in order to reach among more customers
into market. They have reduced the cost of production through frugal innovation theory
by bringing some changes in the overall process. They have involve new technique of
production and machinery through which they have gain success in making quality
product within low cost. With this theory of innovation Dias successfully launched their
appliances set a rare image among customers which make them long term sustain into the
market.
As per the diffusion theory of innovation it influences the rate of adoption in order to
bring new changes into the products or procedure. It shows that the main aspects which
are time, communication and social systems influence the distribution of new idea.

The home appliances industry establishing a vital role in the economy. They are bringing up
words in the rise of Technology and innovation (Kodama, 2018).. As the customers are
becoming more of service centric and effective and convenient products which would be helpful
for household purpose this industry has grown up from past many years. In 2021 the household
appliances business increase in the growth and revenue full stop this is due to the reason of
covid-19 pandemic. the people were spending but I'm at home and focus on home furnishing.
This has impacted on the demand of household appliances that goes higher in 2021 (Thøgersen,
2021). It has seen that cleaning equipment’s are get in most demand in order to remove germs
and bacteria from the home. Therefore a vacuum cleaner are delivered across the world. This
industry came into the bigger innovations by emerging new ideas into products and services first
of many companies like Dyson has invented new motors and batteries and provide robotic
solutions to give great customer satisfaction. Innovations in household factor become vital to a
great necessity for daily routine to the individuals specially for women.

The report has concluded that, innovation is the key for an organisation to grow and lead
into this competitive market. The chosen organisation was one of the company who has took lead
into the global market. They have strategy of continuous innovation due to which the company
runs successfully and making immense profits. Through this report, it has analysed that thee are
various strategies and capability the company could acquire in order to expand their products.
Also the report has shown that the company good expand more into future market by investing in
Robotics machine language and software development. This will be a great start for the company
in bringing innovation. This industry has many opportunities and less competition as compared
to others. Therefore from past recent years people are are contributing in household products
which is a high time to to get rise into the market.
