Benitez, J., Chen, Y., Teo, T. S., & Ajamieh, A. (2018). Evolution of the impact of e-business
technology on operational competence and firm profitability: A panel data investigation.
Information & Management, 55(1), 120-130.
Summary of the article
This article mainly considers the evolution and the growth of the modern businesses which
employ different e-business technologies that have enabled them to enjoy abnormally higher
returns and profits. According to the article, e-business technology has played a significant role
in the growth of many businesses as it has helped to boost the operational competency of the
businesses, which has consequently improved their profits. The article asserts that e-business
technology improves organizations’ proficiency in exploiting a portfolio of their operational
efficiency and this results in an improvement of the organizations’ profits where these profits
become more substantial with time (Benitez et al., 2018).
For the modern e-businesses to utilize e-business technology, they need to make sure their
private and confidential data and information is safe and can’t be accessed by unauthorized
people who can interfere with their e-business technologies and other important operations
happening in the businesses (Cha & Yeh, 2018). Therefore, these e-businesses always
incorporate some of the best information security systems which help to protect their private and
confidential data and information (Safa, Von Solms, & Furnell, 2016). Modern management
information systems (MIS) are also very crucial in these organizations (e-businesses) as they

help them to manage their data and information appropriately and deliver or share the data and
information which needs to be shared within the organization (Zhang et al., 2018).
E-businesses are well-known for doing most of their transactions online which means they
mainly rely on online customers (Fong et al., 2018). Therefore, they have embraced the online
advertising strategies which help them to advertise their products and services across the whole
globe, and this has earned them many customers who have consequently helped them to excel
(Bolos et al., 2016).
