E-learning training program 2
Introduction
Training programs in an organisation are vital for development of employees’ skills and
knowledge and thus the growth of the organisation. Training can be provided to the
employees by several methods and approaches. E-learning is an effective approach to train
employees for flexible and convenient learning and development (The economic times ,
2020).
Overview of e-learning
Electronic learning is an innovative approach to flexible and distance learning. It is the
process of learning based on formalised teaching but including the use of electronic
resources. It refers to all the learning system that uses electronic instruments and devices, for
example; digital classroom, satellite education, internet-based training, and computer-based
training. This learning system enables people to develop their soft skills, personality and
technical skills that may help them in personal and professional progression.
Digital classroom
It is a classroom that contains several digital learning tools. The tools may include LED
projector, smart-boards, and educational appliances’ interface with sensors.
Satellite education
This is the type of e-learning system in which an instructor can give its lessons from one
location to thousands of people across multiple locations. This also provides bidirectional
mode in which people can ask their quarries over the satellite system to the instructor.
Internet-based training
This type of e-learning system involves video conferencing system and telepresence systems.
in this system information or lecture is given with the help of internet. A large number of
materials and contents are available in the internet to develop soft skills and technical skills.

Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages
In this world of information technology, people engage themselves in technical devices.
Learning from it can result in better understanding of information and skill development. The
main advantage that comes with e-learning is that people can schedule their training lectures
or classes according to their personal and professional work. It also reduces time and cost that
people spend travelling and talking to each other. Some employees hesitate and feel
intimidated during the class or lecture due to the presence of peers and colleagues. E-learning
helps them to learn with privacy. Another advantage of e-learning is that the lecture can reach
thousands of people at the same time without investing in a huge place for it. Web-based
learning helps people to become an independent and active learner. People can also learn and
develop their skills in a day-by-day basis or weekend basis, they can also repeat the lecture as
many times as they want for effective learning. Training and development programs are
mostly expensive, but e-learning is very economical and easy to access. The e-learning
system is highly accepted in the corporate world for personal development of individuals
(Clover, 2017).
Disadvantages
E-learning has a few disadvantages in the process of developing skills and knowledge. As it
does not provide an instructor to be present personally to facilitate learning, discussion of
multiple opinions, and pros and cons become difficult. It is not the perfect medium for
queries as just answering the issues or queries may not satisfy the learner. Another
disadvantage of e-learning is for the people that are not enough disciplined for self-directed
learning (JISC, 2011). People may feel awkward and hesitate to involve in group
participation (Vita & Yakavenka, 2012). E-learning is dependent on people’s knowledge of

information technology. The process of learning can become challenging due to lack of
facilities.
How these methods might affect different learning style of employees
It is important to understand learning style of employees to provide them a better learning
experience. The customer service organisation includes 3000 employees and every employee
carry a different combination of learning style preference. For an effective learning
experience, exploring the affects of e-learning on employees’ preferred learning style is
necessary. The systematic staff development can be achieved by developing a learning
program that is feasible for every employee of the organisation.
Visual
The employees that carry high visual learning style learn things by seeing information. It is
because they are capable to understand information by visualising things. But they can also
be distracted very easily so they learn more through face-to-face environment (corner stone,
2019).
Auditory
People with high auditory learning style develop knowledge and skills by hearing things.
These employees face no problem staying focus on long presentations. The e-learning
training program will work for these employees (Bahrami, 2016).
Kinaesthetic
Kinetic learner usually does everything by themselves even learning. This type of employees
prefers no active moments around them while learning and developing skills. These
employees do not like classroom lectures and prefer e-learning style (CSP, 2020).

Internal/external factors that could affect e-learning
Internal factors
Internal factors that may affect e-learning includes procrastination nature of employee
(Benitez, 2016). People are surrounded by distractions in this world. People tend to engage
themselves in social media sites, messaging, music, movies, and mobile games. Employees
with this attitude may find difficulty in learning by postponing it every single time.
Employees may also get affected in the e-learning process if their sleeping habits are poor. It
may cause lack of interest.
External factors
There are many external factors that may affect e-learning process. Learning in an
environment full of distractions or noise can affect learning outcome of the employee. The
distractive environment also includes a bad social circle, for example; friends and families
can disturb an employee in its e-learning process (Benitez, 2016).
Any financial implications for delivery using E-Learning
For an organisation, training is an investment that earns profit for the organisation. The
growth of an organisation is dependent upon its skilled and trained employees. In the service-
based industry, investing in employees’ development is necessary to become a competitor of
the sector. The organisation has to buy several instruments and devices to conduct e-learning
training program. The cost of devices and software depends on its features and quality but in
this case to train 3000 employees, the company will need to purchase good quality products
for effective learning. It can also affect the company negatively, as the company may lose
money due to failure of the program or after developing skills employees may change the
company.

Conclusion
It can be concluded that, training is a vital part of a customer service organisation. Training
through e-learning has more advantages for effective learning as compared to its
disadvantages. So, e-learning will be an effective and easy system for employees training
program. The investment of the organisation to develop e-learning program will help in the
growth of organisation as well as provide a better learning experience for its employees.
