1. Describe the case study and elements of: supply chain, logistics and
information technology
Traffic is a rival for cities of Los Angles as well as Long Beach, California. Growth is
required for cities then traffic is seemed to be inevitable. Congestion is a problem of
inefficiency. The problem is fixed throughout collaboration on the infrastructure,
operations of transport as well as shared information. In two of the ports, Cargo is
required to grow with sustainable growth. The ports are making improvement into traffic
efficiency in three ways such as collaborative technology portal, new logistics
infrastructure and extended gate hours (Lopez 2018).
In a way to expedite the traffic out of port, the elements related to supply chain,
logistics and information technology are required. The cargo is a supply chain elements
which help in sustainable growth. Logistics element is city wide collaboration on the rail
infrastructure. The information technology elements are collaborative technology portal,
extended hours of gate as well as new supply chain infrastructure.
2. Analyse and evaluate e-Logistics of case study
Ports are making improvements in traffic efficiency in three ways such as
collaborative technology portal, extended in gate hours plus new infrastructure. E-
logistics is used in the case study in form of collaborative technology portal where there
is web based application which is dealing with effective transport and distribution along
with storage of the products and demand chains. Alignment of the demand as well as
supply chain management is supposed to be solved by means of software applications and
e-business practices. The supply chain data those are not perfect could be required to
improve using e-logistics. The port of Los Angles and Port of Long Beach is aware of
benefits regarding increased data which have supply chain optimization. Therefore, better

data sharing can improve efficiency. It can improve efficiency by 8% to 12% into the
supply chain facility (Lopez 2018). In order to manage increased in volumes, city, ports
as well as transportation providers, it will build more infrastructure.
3. Recommendations using theory to improve performance of supply
chain logistics and business
Based on the case study, the three main issues are cost, space as well as environment
which can make the supply chain process unrealistic. Following are the recommendations
which are suggested to make improvement in the problems:
Improve distribution network: The distribution network of Los Angeles port is
operational hinge which should build around. The distribution affects from delivery to
sales strategy. When the distribution network of the port is improved, then it provides
with graphs and details to keep eye on process of the business functions. There should be
required to review current warehouses, production facilities and customers based on their
location in addition to network mission of the suppliers.
Monitor cash flow: The cash flow monitoring is such a tool which can improve the
supplier management and track the payment terms as well as conditions in the supply
chain. The port business should understand how to pay the suppliers and expenses which
are passed to the customers. The payment technology is required to implement which is
consisted of vendor bills, electronic pad of warehouse at the time of receiving of goods
plus shipment tracking system.
New infrastructure: In order to manage increased in volumes, the city and ports plus
the transportation providers should look for building new infrastructure. They are looking
at ways to produce greener. They are in a way to reduce carbon emissions by means of
diverting the traffic of truck towards on-dock rail, which help to reduce local congestions.
