FIGHTING CORRUPTION AND POVERTY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES 2
Seeking bribes and living in a corrupt society has become part and parcel of our everyday
life, especially in the developing countries. Most of the people in the developing countries live in
a poor state as their means of subsistence are scarce. Despite corruption being people’s lifestyle,
it has a great impact on the business world, especially in the procurement sector as the different
participants carry on their business in a corrupt manner. For instance, there have emerged
product brokers and discrimination in the field which is threatening and thus appropriate
measures are needed to help in eradicating this issue (Arpit, 2012 50). The main aim of this
project is to illuminate the rising progress, evolution, and promise of deploying e-procurement
and e-governance in fighting corruption and poverty in the developing countries.
E-governance is the application of ICT for delivering services provided by the
government, communication transactions, information exchange, integration of different systems
and services between the government and citizens or the business and not necessarily an internet
website belonging to the government (Ionescu, 2013 210). By deploying e-governance or ICT in
the developing countries will connect three parties ( the government, citizens and the business)
and at the same time will support activities and processes and thus efficiency and effectiveness
will be achieved. These electronic means stimulates good governance, which in turn eradicates
corruption as it focuses on better management of countries affairs at all levels (Bertot, 2010 266).
People in the developing countries will be able to interact with the government 24/7 without
waiting in lines which saves time and minimizes costs and the chances of direct corrupt activities
which in the long-run helps in eradicating poverty.
E-procurement can either be business to the government, consumer or another business
sale and buying of services, work, and supplies via the internet or other networking systems. E-
procurement offers an internet-based platform and it’s a tool created to advance efficiency and

transparency of the procurement process and also helps the business to capture savings.
Deploying e-procurement in developing countries will help in fighting corruption as the system
helps in matching purchases with receipt orders, purchase orders and job tickets, this eradicates
all activities that are corrupt and provides no chance for mysterious errors. This system also
helps in reducing the costs and time taken to procure products and services. E-procurement
manages the systems manage tenders through a website that can be accessed globally, this
improves the accessibility of tenders as everyone can make orders which increases the margin
and eradicates poverty in the long run (Neupane, 2012 10).
In fighting corruption and poverty, developing countries need to use appropriate
measures such as deploying e-governance and e-procurement. This two electronic system helps
to reduce costs and makes companies able to interact with the government and their customers
which also reduces the time taken to complete a transaction. The procurement process is cut
short which minimizes the chances of some of the party being corrupt. All the information
required for the business to carry on are readily provided by this two system and thus all the
parties in developing countries are wiser in making their decision on the business and products to
buy which leads to success and more profits and thus poverty is minimized (Bertot, 2010 270).
Given the leapfrogging opportunities that are readily available through the current technologies,
the gains brought about by the two anti-corruption systems are undeniable, especially when it
comes to fighting corruption and eradicating poverty in developing countries.
