This literature review examines the crucial role of leadership and management in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings, primarily within the Australian context. It analyzes five articles, focusing on leadership characteristics, relational and entrepreneurial leadership, and the impact of Australian Children Education and Care Authority (ACECQA) guidelines. The review explores diverse perspectives on leadership, including modern and postmodern assumptions, and their implications for pedagogy and social justice. The review also discusses the limitations of street-level bureaucracy in ECEC and emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between the roles of manager and leader. The review further highlights the significance of effective leadership in aligning with ECEC policies and ensuring the rights of children, including addressing social injustices. The review concludes by emphasizing the need for a philanthropic approach to leadership in safeguarding children's rights and promoting social justice within the framework of Australian ECEC policies.
