ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
You must achieve a satisfactory outcome for each of the required criteria of this assessment to
be deemed satisfactory for this assessment. You must achieve a satisfactory result for the
assessments for this unit of competency to achieve a competent result for the unit. If one or
more of the assessment results are not satisfactory, you will be Not Yet Competent for this
unit.

The student handbook has the steps for reassessment if you receive a Not Yet Competent mark

Reasonable adjustment for assessment
Where students have highlighted Language, Literacy and Numeracy issues reasonable adjustment
to the assessment can be made. Should you receive a ‘Not Yet Competent’ or ‘Resubmit’ result for
the assessment you will be given the opportunity to re-submit your assessment work with any
amendments requested by your trainer.
The adjustment may include actions such as:
Student demonstrating knowledge through verbal discussion to identify correct answers
Student demonstrating knowledge through applied skills
Allowing additional time relating to disability
Through consultation amending assessment timeframes
Assistance in the form of the training location to allow easier access
Accessing relevant equipment or aids to assist the student
Adjustments to the assessment methods to cater for any special needs (without effecting the
integrity of the outcome)
If a student requests or is identified as requiring reasonable adjustment to the training and
assessment process a detailed training and assessment plan including timetables, notes regarding the
required adjustments, and any related communications regarding the adjustments must be maintained
in the students file.
The RTO Manager must review and authorise any request for ‘reasonable adjustment’ to ensure
that any adjustments and resulting outcomes are not affecting the integrity of the training and
assessment process.
Location of and completion timeframes for assessment
The location of the assessment will depend upon the nature of the assessment. Direct observation of
student’s skills will be assessed in the practical commercial kitchens at Academia, the timeframes for
these assessments will be related to the scheduled times of the practical classes. Other assessments
such as; role plays, in class activities, presentations and written tests will be conducting in the
classroom. The timeframes and due dates for these assessments, as well as any reports, projects or
research projects, are documented in the stage outlines. Stage outlines are handed out at the beginning
of each term.

Case Study 1: Sleep and Rest
All children have individual sleep and rest requirements.
Children need a comfortable, relaxing environment to enable
their bodies to rest. This environment must be safe and well
supervised to ensure children are safe, healthy and secure in
their environment.
SCENARIO 1
You are working as an early childhood educator in Sparkling Stars Childcare Centre. You
are in charge of taking care of the following two children:
Tim:
Tim is 3 years old. He likes to sleep with his favourite blanket that his mum packs for him
when he goes to the centre. His mum has informed you that Tim gets very agitated
throughout the day when he does not get his afternoon nap and
prefers that the centre ensures he gets his nap before she picks him
up in the afternoon.
Tim does not like to eat vegetables. However, his mum is very
particular about his diet:
- A portion of vegetables in every meal (he is not
allowed to have dessert unless he finishes all his
vegetables)
- He can only have dessert after lunch provided he
finishes all his vegetables.
- He is not allowed to have sweets between 1PM to 2PM and past 5PM
- He is lactose intolerant and very sensitive with other milk-based products
He is a very active and playful kid. He loves playing physical games with other kids such
as tag, hide and seek, catch, etc. He gets easily bored with activities like storytelling, craft
making and any other activities that do not involve physical play.

Kevin:
Kevin is 2 years old and is still used to sleeping in a cot. He just
started going to the centre and is still afraid to be left in the
centre without his mum. Hearing his mum’s voice calms him
down and helps him go to sleep. So his mum provided the centre
with a recording of herself reading bedtime stories to play for
Kevin when he is having difficulty sleeping.
Aside from him being very shy around other kids and new people,
Kevin is very easy to take care of. He follows his diet without any

anyone but his mum clean him up.
Feeding, sleeping and nappies/ toileting are some of the specific needs for Kevin as he is
only 2 years currently and need specific care. The sleeping and other patterns should be
analysed, for improved efficiency within child lifestyle habits. Feeding, sleeping and
nappies along with essentials for tolieting for childrn should be there as it further enables to
determine best children care for improved wellness. Kevin should be given special care, to
improvise experience and care while feeding and sleeping along with nappies. This will
enable proper care to be delivered and generate proper child care to be delivered. The
child should be also given proper sanitized and clean nappies and sleeping place
arrangement, for ideal care. Centre should also take care of various conditions such as
keeping specific practices in schedule for all activities such as feeding, sleeping and
nappies management.
