The health and safety at work Act 1974 are responsible for
protecting the human being from the risk and injuries at
workplace and also protect the employee and non-employee and
keep a control to use of explosive or flammable substances for
the betterment of the human body. According to the laws and
legislation they have a duty of individual employee to put the
efforts to secure them and provide health and safety at
workplace (Faccin, J.E., Laskoski, and et.al, 2020). This health and
safety measures can be included keeping the environment and
healthy or proper cleanliness of the wet floors so nobody can
slip and fall over. Along with this, this all activities have been
applied due to make sure that the children are kept at safe and
heathy place.
COSHH
COSHH is the law and legislation for the employers to keep a
control on harmful substances which impacts the health and
safety at the workplace. This law covers the hazardous like
chemicals, fumes, dust, vapours and such more. This rule and
regulations helps the employee to not get impacted by dangerous
hazards and chemical substances which affects their health and
safety.
RIDDOR
The term RIDDOR refers as reporting of the issues, diseases and
dangerous occurrence regulations. Under this regulation, a major
injury incident has to be keep the record such as serious fracture
from which the workplace can focus on harmful areas. Keeping
the records of injury and death incidents is must. This law helps
employer to maintain the safe work environment and follows all
the health and safety procedures at the workplace. It holds the
employer to stay attentive and responsible for work health
safety.
The healthy and safe environment can be built by setting of the
safe working practices where it includes the proper information
and training programs for the staff member which helps to
conduct a safe working environment. Also, maintenance of the
equipment, cleaning of all the substances and keeping the
sharpen and harmful things at locked away help to maintain the
safety. If any of the first aid incidents happened, it should be
reported. Using all the health and safety measures like first aid
box, PPR kits, gloves and such more will help to control the
small injuries. The good practise and setting scan be
implemented in some ways like providing the accurate amount
of the time to the children for play, sleep and rest time so that a
good working environment can be developed.

 Implementation of no smoking and drinking policies
 Only allow the parent to meet the children
 A well-trained staff for the paediatric first aid.

The nursery has fixed and scheduled the working hours
according to their suitable timing of the families (WOOD,
et.al. 2020). A regular information of changing and
modifications of the rule and policies has been informed

where there is an active airbag unless the air bag is
designed not to cause injuries if it inflates.

serious injuries, illness, accidents, or death of any
children and the action taken.

Toy Safety
Regulations 2011
RoSPA
The purpose of regulation is to ensure the safety of playing
substances like toys. The regulation outlines the essential safety
requirements which apply to toys.
All toys in sale in the UK must carry the following marks:
1.CE mark, this means the toy meets requirements of the
European Directive
2.Lion Mark, this means that the manufacturer follows the
British Toy and Hobby Association code of practice
3.BS, The British Standard: explains how manufacturers should
meet the requirements of the Directive.
Toys should be safe and appropriate for the child’s age and must
be approved by upper authorities.

1.2 Explain how legislation and guidance informs company policies
and procedures
It is the duty of the practitioners of the nursery to ensures that the policies are followed by
the staff in the nurseries. It is very necessary to comply with the health and safety because
to protect the children, staff and other patients from the injuries and incidents, promotion of
the health and well-being of the children's, maintaining discipline as well as the safe
working environment for the staff (Yousef, N. and Yousef, F.).
Responsibilities of the practitioners of the nurseries is that they have to take utmost care of
avoiding the injuries of the staff as well as the visitors of the nursery and should always
take care of the safety requirements of the nursery. The practitioners must ensure that the
staff of the nursery are much familiar with each other.
Responsibilities of Health and safety officers is to ensure that if any unpredicted incidents
happen in the nursery so for that full Stock of the first aid must be kept by the staff,

ensuring that the laws and legislations of the Health and safety are updated regularly and
conducting the risk assessment regularly for avoiding any incident. The managers are
responsible for the risk of the fire if happens in the nursery, so they must ensure of setting
fire extinguishers in the nursery for immediately taking action for this.
Proper training should be conducted for the staff so that they can work properly in the
nursery for taking care of the patients. The information regarding the health and safety
laws must be given to the staff so that they can follow these while working in the nursery.

Health Protection Agency (HPA)-
This enables to in protection by providing the advice and support to the local authorities,
NHS, services as well as the Department of the Health to the public health.
Health Safety Executive-
This involves as the independent process in which they are responsible for the eliminating
the severe incidents and injuries to the public.
Child Accident Prevention Trust-
This is the trust which is involved in working to reduce the accident and the injuries
happens to the Children's.
Food standards agency-
It is the independent government department which is responsible for the safety of food
and the hygienic food.
British Safety Council-
These is the body which works with the nurseries to ensure about the improvements in the
health, safety and environmental management of the nursery so that proper safety policies
are followed by them.
Ofsted-
It is the body of legislation which is responsible for the inspection, regulation proper
education in the nurseries for ensuring the staff and the children of the nursery (Kowalski
and Anthony).
1.4 Explain how policies and procedures related to health and safety,
security and confidentiality of information are monitored and
maintained
An individual must be assigned in the nursery for monitoring and maintaining the health,
safety and security which is the nursery manager. Monitoring involves actively keeping
eye on the behaviour of the staff, going through all the documents and writings which will
help the nursery manager to effectively manage the health and safety in the nursery.
Reviewing that the policies and procedures are followed by the staff or not can be
evaluated by using the workplace inspections that is physically observing the working of
the staff and as well as observation of the equipment’s the staff are using (Kruse and et.al.).
At the nurseries, the health and safety can be monitored by the various ways that is by
using the checklists for preventing from any unpredicted incidents, by regularly inspection
at the nurseries, regularly doing the risk assessment which will help in avoiding the severe
risks at the nurseries. Taking feedbacks from the staff as well as from the parents will help
in effectively monitoring the policies and regulations of the nursery for health and safety.
The policies are regularly inspected by the safety and health management to combat with
the changes of the regulations and legislations in the nursery.

It is important to understand the each and every role and responsibility
of implementing and following the good health and safety measures so
that an individual person can survive a healthy life (Moghtaderi,
Aminiyan, Alamdar, and et.al. 2019). My main responsibility is to care
about the safety, health and welfare of myself and others, this means
not putting myself or others at risk by my action or my inaction.
Other responsibilities
 Replace and remove the harmful substances in the nursery to
make the place safe.
 A proper investigation of the risk areas to reduce the risk and
implement the health and safety measures
 A well-educated training to the staff members to manage and
understand their responsibilities according to certain situations.
 Use of PPE if required (e.g. disposable gloves and aprons).
 I should read understand and comply with warning signs, for
example wet floor signs.
