INTRODUCTION
Management is a process of planning, coordinating, monitoring and controlling the
activities of a particular set of event. It helps in handling the various other activities by assigning
different riles and responsibilities to individual. Earth hour is a worldwide event organized by
world wide fund for nature (WWF). This study will highlight, purpose and participating
countries in Earth hour. It will also demonstrate 22 corporations which are associated with Earth
hour. Furthermore, this study includes various international and local ambassadors to promote
Earth hour. This study also highlights, environmental outcomes which are affiliated with Earth
hour event.
MAIN BODY
Description of Earth Hour.
Eco-tourism market is an effective form of tourism which focuses on visiting undisturbed
natural areas to various individuals for best quality experience. There is an increasing trend in the
Eco-tourism market. It helps in fostering natural environment and culture of the Australia. The
main purpose is to build cultural and environmental awareness, conservation and minimize
negative impact for retaining the natuiral resources of the economy (ECOTOURISM, 2019).
Earth hour is a worldwide event organized by world wide fund for nature (WWF). This
event is held every year in order to encourage communities, individual and businesses to switch
off non- essential electrical lights for one hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on a particular day at
the end of March. This event was started for the first time in Sydney, Australia, 2007 in order to
raise awareness in relation with energy consumption, climate change and environmental effects.
WWF inspired and encouraged Sydney siders in order to support climate action. Approximately
200 businesses and 2.2 million individuals turned off their lights for one hour in Earth hour event
in 2007. The key purpose of carrying out Earth Hour event is that it makes significant difference
in the energy consumption which in turn helps in reducing negative effect of global warming on
the planet (Sukma & Pramudya, (2019, May)). This helps in solving the problems of global
warming.
Earth hour event is carried out in more than 187 countries and territories across 7000
cities since 2007 with the main motive of raising awareness regarding climate change. The first
Earth hour was held in Sydney at 7:30 P.m. The Earth hour 2008 was held in 35 countries
internationally. In 2009 it was held in various cities including landmark such as CN tower,

Spinax, Great pyramids of Giza. In 2010 Earth hour event 126 countries participated which
includes some landmarks such as Niagara falls, Las Vegas strip, Empire state building and
Mount Rushmore. Earth hour 2011 was help in 5251 cities and 135 countries and territories
including landmark like Maiden tower. By the year 2018, it has established in 188 counties and
territories.

to raise awareness regarding climate change. HSBC across 86 countries focus on power down in

Earth hour has a support of one of the leading home furnishing company, i.e., IKEA in

cooperated together in the year 2002 with the aim to decrease logical footprint and sustainable
use of resources. Ikea China focuses on supporting Earth hour by effectively dimming lights in
stores across 9 cities on China. It focuses on offering SUNNAN a solar lamp on the particular
day. It focuses on encouraging various individuals, communities and businesses in order to
impose positive action in relation with climate change (Fernández & et.al. (2015)). They support
Earth hour by effectively fighting climate change by involving various IKEA stores and co-
workers of the company. IKEA pledges to support planet earth by switching off non-essential
interior and exterior lights. It will also distribute free candles to customers, co-working
competition activities, with the help of various social media platforms. Everyday IKEA focuses
on reducing climate change by replacing incandescents bulbs with energy efficient CFLs. It also
plants trees to reduce carbon dioxide emission in the environment (Earth Hour is Coming Up!

Change, 2010). It focuses on reducing, reusing and recycling from the waste in order to protect
natural environment.
HSBC is in collaboration with Earth hour in order to raise awareness in relation with
climate change. HSBC is aligned with WWF in order to work collaboratively to take action
regarding climate change. HSBC is supporting Earth hour in order to have positive combat on
the climate changes. HSBC will be supporting Earth hour by shutting down lights in various
offices established in Bermuda, U.S. and Canada. It focuses on providing sustainable financing
in order to build low carbon future. HSBC will help in financing funds in order to gain
knowledge in relation with climate change and global warming (Senadeera & McGree, (2015,
November)). It is a symbolic act by responsibly managing the challenges and implement green
policies for better results. There is a mutual benefit because it helps HSBC in building a positive
image in the eyes of customers by working ethically and sustainably towards environment.

Jessica Marie Alba is an American actress and a successful businesswoman. The
Hollywood star and the co-founder of Honest Company, is titled as the global ambassador for

Earth Hour 2013. This is the world's biggest collective participation event in which people take
part to protect the planet. Jessica Alba was suitable person to be titled as she was determined
towards the fact of protecting the planet (Seedhouse, (2017)). She encouraged the people who
accept IWIYW challenge to take part in Earth's Hour's monumental lights off event. She believed
that the choices we make in our day to day lives can make a difference to the very planet in
which we live. Jessica even joined a list of celebrities who are a part of “I Will If You Will”
campaign with other top models. She even believed that the Earth Hour is about the power of the
whole community that is interconnected and if come together can help in sustainable future for
the planet (Oser, (2015)). She inspired her fans and colleagues in joining the global community
and support the Earth Hour. She came up with an agreement between The Honest Company and
Earth Hour to promote the sustainable living and will use eco-friendly products. She brought a
new concept in her company that they started selling eco-friendly, non-toxic baby clothes and
bath and baby products. She even suggested their buyers to promote the products to their family,
friends and colleagues to positively work together to change our planet. She inspired the people
by using all the eco friendly products for her own children's as well, but on a condition that if
along with her 10000 people will start using it. Jessica Marie Alba influenced 10000 people to
commit towards using eco friendly products and switching non-toxic products. She is the perfect
role model to be titled with global ambassador of Earth Hour. When people like her participate in
such events people get influenced and take necessary measures to bring in positive impact on the
economy.
Ambassadors who participate in such events helps in motivating other individual to work
towards the welfare of the economy (Seedhouse, (2017)). This helps in effectively utilizing the
resources of the economy by taking small steps in the day to day life. Complying with all
environmental policies and legislations results in long term sustainable growth of the planet. This
in turn results in positive change in the economy.

the waste in order to protect the natural environment of the company. This helps consumers to
use power saving alternatives such as LED computer monitors, LED lightbulbs, etc. Earth hour
has a very positive impact on the economy, forest, wildlife, etc. Earth hour event helps in
creating better future for the individual and planet. It helps in tacking various environmental
challenges like global warming, pollution, lack of natural resources, biodiversity etc. Earth hour
has made new environmental legislations and policies for the protection of forest (Gala & Day,
(2016)). It also helped in mobilizing the support of public for creating 3.5 million hectare marine
protected area. Earth hour has also created 2700 hectare Earth hour forest in Uganda. Earth hour
has also planted 17 million trees in the Kazakhstan. Inspired by Earth hour, Philippines focus on
promoting the sustainability among various partners, communities, government, etc. in order to
build climate resilient communities with low carbon future planet. Worldwide fund focuses on
reversing the destruction of the environment by taking necessary action.

From the above study it has been concluded that, management is an effective process of
planning, coordinating, monitoring and controlling the activities of a particular set of event. It
