1. The voice behind the poem labels the loneliness and the pain of the poet. He highlights
his poem “Eating Alone” with strong images in order to connect his melodies of memory
and solitude. The fourth stanza of the poem designates that the ground is bared now and a
cold tone is heard which pronounces the grief of the poet. The poem is touched with
melancholy as the speaker narrates his loneliness as he goes around his life on his own,
gardening, reaping produce, and making his food while pondering about his father. His
nostalgia for his father and the sentimental memory of his father are enlightening of the
speaker's warm love and affection for his father (Schaap, 2017).
2. The expression of the feeling given by the poet describes that he is very emotional, warm
and caring towards his father. The qualities depict his attitude and respect towards the
elderly figure. The poet states that what else a young man would want describes the
bitterness and melancholy which personifies that the poet is discontented and unhappy
from his life. The remembrance of the memories describes that the poet is very much
grounded and attentive towards his father’s reactions and wishes to share his food with
the loved ones. This pronounced his quality of communion and belongingness with the

3. The essence of the title is seen in the description given by the poet. He describes the pain
of eating lonely and the memories which he has revived with his father. There is also a
theme of loss that is very emotional in the poem. The poet has associated winter because
it is the season of dullness and demise. The word "until" induces a logic of dissatisfaction
and the darkness of the "flickering, deep green shade" seems to create an atmosphere of
solemnity and unhappiness. However, in my views, the title of the poem is reviewing the
actual state of the poet (Schaap, 2017).
