1.0. INTRODUCTIONS
Web applications have helped the world by putting daily task we perform in a straight forward
way and has made our lives easy. To overcome the problem of learning web applications can be
used to bring the library resources close to the users which they can access by use of their mobile
phones or computers (Qaffas, 2012). In the past, the e-book system was done manually, where
the user will visit the library get registered on a piece of paper or a record book. When the
student wants a book he will be given a receipt stating the book number and the price of the
book. This procedure was time-consuming and needed a lot of paperwork. Nowadays the
libraries are being replaced with the use of soft copies where user access books on a website
(McNaught & Alexander, 2014). The E-book website will reduce the effort that is required by
the users to visit the library frequently, most people lack enough time to visit the libraries; thus
reading is becoming a difficult task for them (McNaught & Alexander, 2014). The project will
make it easy for the user to access the books they desire and make it easy for the user to read the
books by subscribing to the platform, users can access books and save the books to their local
machines.

an effort to attain a goal.

encouraged us to build an online E-book website. The system will have all categories of books,
and it will be easy to search for a book, this will allow both computer literates and illiterates to
access the books they want quickly.

One of the primary motivation for coming up with this project is the rate at which the world
population is increasing. With the high rise in society, the number of libraries is remaining
constant. This has discouraged lot of readers from visiting the libraries because of congestion.

when a large number of users access the system at the same time. The E-book system offers easy
access to the book. Online access to books is flexible and will attract a lot of users who don't

their capabilities will increase and prices will decrease. The increased usage of E-readers and E-
books may impact the level of literacy, increase the level of reading among the readers and it will
develop great skills to the readers.

E-books are accessible to a wide range of users compared to the library which are easily accessed
by people around them. (Davids & Anita, 2015) cited that the number of E-books will exceed
the number of printed books in the near future. The academic libraries have introduced strategies
that will reduce the purchase of physical books and has started removing the previous purchased
physical books to replace them with e-books due to the fact that E-books has started gaining
popularity and has been accepted by the clients (Davids & Anita, 2015). The E-books are easily
portable according to (Ukwuoma, 2016), user can carry thousands of books with them. This is
one great advantage that makes the client accept E-books. The major drawback with E-books is
that they require power for them to be accessed (Ukwuoma, 2016).

format. EPUB is an open source, vendor independent and free to use, it has become most used E-

(Dani, 2015).
AZW and AZW3 are E-book extension for amazon books. Both formats are proprietary are

Amazon book is a large retail book mainly owned by Amazon. Amazon.com hosts more than a
million titles in electronic format. Amazon has physical stores as well where readers can pick up
the books they purchase online if they do not prefer E-book formats. Most Amazon books come
in EPUB format or AZW format (Dani, 2015). The books have restriction on E-reader and for
that reason Amazon has come up with their own E-reader device called Amazon Kindle. The
kindle can hold more than thousands title (JONATHAN & BERNADETTE, 2014). Amazon sale
has immensely grown since they launched the device. The company has found some criticism
from their customer in that their E-Books cost is high than that of printed books which seemed
unfair to them (JONATHAN & BERNADETTE, 2014). Even though the device can save
thousands of books from generation to generation, the device is not able display color or graphs
illustration (JONATHAN & BERNADETTE, 2014).

to start scanning books. They have a digital scanner that can scan a thousand page within an hour

competitors, privacy advocates and federal authorities are closely monitoring Google book

the books they purchase online if they do not prefer E-book formats. Most Amazon books come
in EPUB format or AZW format (Dani, 2015). The books have restriction on E-reader and for
that reason Amazon has come up with their own E-reader device called Amazon Kindle. The
kindle can hold more than thousands title (JONATHAN & BERNADETTE, 2014). Amazon sale
has immensely grown since they launched the device. The company has found some criticism
from their customer in that their E-Books cost is high than that of printed books which seemed
unfair to them (JONATHAN & BERNADETTE, 2014). Even though the device can save
thousands of books from generation to generation, the device is not able display color or graphs
illustration (JONATHAN & BERNADETTE, 2014).

competitors, privacy advocates and federal authorities are closely monitoring Google book
project (NATHAN, 2009). When a purchase is made on google books, the delivery method is
only through E-book. Google books works by searching the title of the book on their search

of them use google books and the remaining 17% obtain their resources from online books stores
like Amazon.

claimed that they don't trust online transaction and they feel insecure shopping online while
remaining 6% don’t have a crew on how to shop online.
5.1.5. What motivates the use E-book
63% of E-book readers agreed that E-book drove them to read more books while 27% strongly
agreed to the same proposition.
90% of those who read E-book strongly agree that they read E-books because they can read at
the comfort of their own. While 96% agreed that they read E-book because they are portable
compared to physical books thus it enables them to carry lot of books on their devices. The E-
books allow users to search through the books by use of keywords which is a motivating factor
for them compared to the flipping around the books (Umair, Muhammad, Rizwan, Faiza, &
Sohail, 2012).

For this project to be successful, we need to have enough resources and to identify the best
technology for implementing the project.
6.1. Technologies

MySQL is an open source database management system and it will be used as a backend
database system. MySQL is a relational database management System meaning it uses different
tables to store information where the table is linked to each other for easy access and
maintenance of data (Jay & Brad, 2001).
MySQL is used hand to hand with PHP. PHP gathers information from the database and display
the information to the users (eliteinfo, 2015).

PHP being a server-side language it will need a server for it to work. The chosen server for this
project is Apache. Apache is an open source software and works well on all browser. Even
though Apache is preferred to be used on a Linux O.S it can also run on both MAC OS and all

Without the necessary resources, it will be impossible to accomplish the project. Two types of
