This course has helped me grow personally and professionally as I have learnt the
fundamentals and principles of the research process and how to apply this in nursing. Moreover,
I have learnt significance of ethical issues in research such as risk-benefit ratio which involves
analyzing likely potential risks and benefits prior to any contact with a potential subject. My
expectations from this course have been met which involved understanding methods of research
which has always been a challenge for me as well as to understand how to evaluate research
findings relating to the nursing practice.
I have acquired significant knowledge on how to go about EBP reviews and group
project. In particular, I have learnt the important 5 steps of the EBP nursing cycle: ask, acquire,
acquire evidence, appraise the evidence, apply the evidence, and assess the evidence. I have also
learnt to view EBP as my commitment to being a health care provider and patient advocate
contributing to the development of the nursing profession at the same time respecting a patient’s
preferences and values. Moreover, I feel that this course has strengthened my skills in preparing
and EBP paper as I have learnt how to strongly establish my thesis. Also, I have learnt how to
properly format my papers giving them a continuous flow of ideas explaining their dominance.
Most importantly, I have learnt how to go about systematic review, meta-analysis, clinical
practice guidelines and protocols. I have also learnt how to sample methods in an EBP paper as
well as how to properly collect data, and analyze it accordingly.
