Objective: The main objective behind the completion of this project is to meet the needs the
demands of the travellers related to easy accessibility and more capacity in a station outside
London, UK.
Coventry rail station is looking to develop a footbridge and extend the platform canopies.
To create a second entrance for the station which will provide step free excess to the
platforms.
To develop a multi storey car parking area.
To form a bus interchange which will be connected with the building of the station.
To have improvements in the conditions of roads and including new ones.
To develop new bay platform.

This project is made to transform the Coventry station in order to create a aesthetic gateway
which will lead to the city with a more accommodation to the number of passengers. It is to build
a new entrance to the station and proper pedestrian crossing. The project management team is
working on designing and constructing work with a proper strategy and aligning with the
stakeholders while managing the whole program within the budget. The involvement of
stakeholders is given in the table.

Working on such large project brings in many risks which can happen during the project
working. It is important to identify these risks and creating a risk response accordingly. Some of
the major risks are given below with their associated risk response.

Infrastructure damage: This type of risk can occur when the existing infrastructure is damaged
during the time of construction. Such risks can lead to increase the cost in the already set
budgets. There will be a cost of repairing and replacing the damaged product. The risk response
for this can be to reduced by the help of repairing and replacing the defected part. The work
processes started in a way which will reduce the effects of infrastructure failure (Stosic, and
et.al., 2017).
Theft and vandalism: Such types of risk can result in disruption of the on going work. This risk
will have a major impact on the success factors like time and money. There will be a cost to
replace the damage caused by theft and vandalism as well as extra cost to replace the stolen
assets. The risk response for theft and vandalism is to transfer the risk to the third party. It can be
prevented with the purchase of having an insurance on all the products and investing more in the
security activities.
Material and labour shortage: Not having a proper supply chain will result in material not
arriving at the time they are required. This will result in delay which will consume a lot of time
and will harm the quality when the required materials are not available. Labour shortage happens
when the contractors which are required at the instant time and in the short notice become
unavailable. This will result in delay and increased costs as the workers will demand high rates
on coming for short notice (Ferakhim and Latief, 2019). The response for this risk is to have a
contingency plan in a proper place which will handle the risk at the time it will occur. Having a
backup supplier will help in preventing from causing disruptions due to supply chains.
Trade off are very loosely defined during the time of any situation when taking a decision
can result in losing something else. This will lead to renunciation of the benefits and
opportunities. Trade off in the zero situation will result in plus in one area and at the same time
negative to another. Trade off during the time of a decision will lead to losing one quantity or
quality in return for the other gains. It is where one thing is decreased and other is increased.

From the risk register table it can be seen that the success factor of cost is highly affected by the
risks. The major risks such as infrastructural damage, theft and vandalism and material and
labour shortage are all leading to extra costs be used from the already set budget. Each of the
success point is important and all the risks grouping against the cost factor can result in over
budget which can lead to the closure of the whole project. It is important to control these risks
prior enough. In the risk of having an infrastructure damage can lead to causing various problems
such as not allowing new construction or making the new development defected. It is important
to eliminate this risk and is done with the help of reducing the risk as the damaged infrastructure

will cause replacement and repairing costs. Another risk is the theft and vandalism which will
affect the cost factor in an obvious way (Sañudo-Fontaneda, and et.al., 2020). The stolen
products and managing the damage will require the use of extra costs and thus makes it
important to eliminate this risk. The risk response for this is transferring. It means that there is a
need to involve a third party which will help the management to prevent from this risk to happen.
This third party is the use of security cameras and hiring a team for securing the site and
materials. Another type of risk is the risk of material and labour shortage. This risk is directly
affecting the cost factor as when there is a disruption in the supply chain during the time when
the material is required will be available in more costs than before as the demand for it is
increased. Same is the case for the labours. To avoid this risk to happen, a proper contingency
plan is required which will solve the problem from way before it will create a risk to the project.

prevent this risk from happening in the first place. From the risk register it can be seen that there
are broad range of risk in the ongoing project which have the power to influence the factors
leading to success. Each risk has its own pro and impact o the project but the highest composite
risk index is 12 from the table.

development sites just like in the development of Coventry rail station. The temporary nature of
the site provides the adequate boarder security as a challenge. These sites have the availability of

which in turn will create many losses and make the project delay. Such risk can be monitored
and controlled with the help of deploy lighting as these sites are dark and become very isolated
during the night time will attract lot of targets for bad activities (Vaa, 2017). When this site is
well lit, it will decrease the risk of vandalism and theft and let the intruder stay out even during
the night time. Another method is by installing the surveillance cameras which can deter the
criminals and the modern cameras will provide with a highly detailed footage of the whole place.
The option for live and recorded camera will help in feeding to catch the perpetrators. The
advanced technology which is used today is can give easy access on the mobile phones and
making the monitoring easy.
Developing a security plan and implementing it will help in protecting the different
vulnerable areas. Communicating this plan will help in raising the security awareness. Coventry
rail station will use the most common process to help with the security is by hiring the security
guards. The use of technology and lighting are helpful for the this site, the criminals can still be
motivated in their aim when they know the process to defeat them (Tang, and et.al., 2019).
Hiring the professional security guards which will monitor the site during the whole day as well
as during the night time will help in maximising the security efforts. These security guards serve
the purpose of visible deterrent and their job makes them respond quickly to investigate any
suspicious activity. Another process is to conduct background checks as in some cases the
employees working in the development project help themselves to tool and equipments while
doing their job (Shahtaheri, and et.al., 2017). They act as an inside theft which can be difficult to
prevent. This makes it important to have a background checks on the employees during the time
of the hiring process to eliminate such potential thieves.
