Introduction
The report elucidates the various issues faced by Eco-Fone by analyzing the
Smartphone market and presenting the analysis of customer, product and financial
information. Evaluating the Smartphone market and feasibility of the expansion of business is
done identifying the preference of customers and ongoing trend in the market. In addition to
this, the quality assurance procedures and the satisfaction of customers are evaluated for
measuring the performance of company. The report also addresses the opportunities for Eco-
Fone to expand its business in Kingston by comparing the average values of pros and cons
and determining the feasibility of expansion.
1. Analyzing of issues for Eco-Fone Smartphone
1.1 An Overview of the mobile phone market in UK
The range of prices of smart phones is extended with the fewer phones being sold.
The market of smart phones has clearly rebalanced despite the year on year decline was a
blip. In the near term, the pattern of sales units in UK is low with higher average selling price
in indicating that the trend of past two years would continue. However, the sale of
smartphones in the country is booming with larger section of older population has increasing
inclination towards buying phones. Moreover, it also suggested by the research that over the
past few years, the adoption of smartphone by older group is faster. It has also been
highlighted that the use of smartphones by the demographic members is less than young
people. The likelihood of buying premium handset comes from older age group of 5 to 75
years having higher average wealth (deloitte.co.uk 2019).
One of the factors that are preventing the decline in sales of smartphones comes from
increasing sales to older age group (Appiah et al. 2017). It is perceived that the manufacturers

would rise of price of handset for offsetting the falling volume, as the market tends to reach
its saturation. Some of the most common usage of smartphones amongst the employed
workforce of UK includes sending emails, viewing documents, making standard calls and
calendar management (Pearson and Hussain 2016).

The above mixed chart presents the comparison of usage of smartphones for different
work related activities for two different years. Smartphones are particularly used by
customers for sending emails with 41% and 37% in year 2016 indicating a decline in present
year of analysis. For making standard calls, the percentage stood at 33% in year 2016 as
against 32% in year 2017. Workforce did not use smartphones for viewing documents in year
2017 while the percentage recorded at 17% in 2016. Workforce used smartphones for
managing workload at a percentage of 8% in year 2016, which declined to 6% in year 2016
(deloitte.co.uk 2019). Therefore, from the analysis of figures, the fact, which is deduced, is
that the overall usage of smartphone has declined in year 2017.

This section demonstrates the presentation of appropriate line chart based on the data
produced in the Deloitte report. Such presentation is done using different graphs. The line

the value of one variable based on another variable. In the given case, the requirement is to
forecast the usage of different products and no other variable has been considered. Therefore,
forecast model of excel is used to forecast the usage of products.
1.3 Smart phones – A particular market for older customers:
In the United Kingdom, the sales of smartphones are blooming among the older age
group with 71% of total old age population owning smartphones in year 2018 compared to
29% in year 2012. Summarizing the features of smartphones that have made Smartphone
popular among older customers has been presented in this section of the report.
Smartphones now are being launched with bigger screens and loudspeakers which
older age group finds it easier to view (bbc.co.uk 2019). This is so because the
eyesight of older people deteriorates and big screen provide them clear view.
One of the features that are very attractive among old age group is facial recognition,
which is a quite popular mechanism of authenticity. Old age prefer to pick the phone
and look at it instead of fiddling about the pressing button and entering password for
unlocking the phone (bbc.co.uk 2019).
Smartphone have added features of built in health applications that help older age
group in keeping a track of their blood pressure, heart beat and pulse rate. In addition
to this, greatest convenience is offered to customers due to growing number of
applications of parking meters (Jannetts et al. 2019).

1.6 Testing the Possible Difference in Net Takings in the Two Shops
The net takings from the two retain shops of Eco-Fone is compared by computing the
total net takings which is obtained by multiplying mean value of net takings with total sample
of net takings from each of the shop. In addition to this, the value of standard deviation of net
takings from both the shops is compared for determining the variability. The sample of net
daily takings from both the shop is equivalent to 40.

From the data above, it is observed that the total net daily takings from shop one is
more than total net daily takings from shop two. In addition to this, it is also observed that the
standard deviation of net daily takings from shop two is more than shop two. This higher
value of standard implies that the variability in the net daily takings from shop two is greater
than shop one.
1.7 Customer Satisfaction
The overall satisfaction of customers of Eco-Fone is assessed by evaluating the data
gathered through questionnaires (Hill and Brierley 2017). Data has been collected by asking
the customers to provide answers of the questions. The first question seeks customers about
the last purchase made from the company. It was found that customers purchase the products
between three and six months. Second question is about the time duration for which the
customer uses the products and services of the company. With regard to this question, it was
found that the maximum time for which the customer uses the services and products is
between one and three years. Question three concerns with rating the company on different
attributes. The customer support and services of Eco-Fone is rated as fair. Customers have
rated the quality of services and products, sales staff and price of products good.
Furthermore, customers are neutral when it comes to continue doing business with the Eco-
Fone and with the overall satisfaction. Lastly, from the analysis of data, it has been

to others (Stott et al. 2016). Therefore, from the data analysis, it is inferred that the overall
satisfaction of customers with the company is low. Hence, there is a need to make
improvement in the customer services and quality of products and services.
1.8 Quality Procedures
The implementation of Poisson distribution is done where for a given sample space,
the average number of success is known. It helps in determining the probability of exact
number of success that can occur during a unit time. This distribution helps in modeling the
occurrence of defect rate per unit from the large data set. The usage of Poisson distribution os
considered appropriate when the sample to be studied is large enough where the probability
of occurrence of defect is rare (Madadi et al. 2018). In the given case, the size of sample to
be studied is large that is comprises of 10000 invoices with an average of two errors per
month. Moreover, the probability of returning of three invoices is less than 15% implying
that the chance of occurrence of errors is low. Hence, it is suitable to use the Poisson
distribution in the given scenario. Since, the chances of occurrence of error within the given
sample is considerably low, it can be deduced that the company is meeting on the quality
standards.
1.9 Conclusion and important findings
The analysis of the facts concerning the products and services of Eco-Fone gives an
insight into the overall performance of company. With the current trend of smartphones, the
company is making sales that help in generating steady profits. This increased profit level has
lured the company to expand its business in the Kingston. However, some issues are faced
with the quality and pricing of products that anticipates decline in the total volume of sales.
In light of this, it s recommended to improve the quality of the product by incorporating some
