Introduction
Eco Smart Trash are trash cans that helps in waste management, the company is
situated in Al Ain in UAE. Eco Smart trash provides a garbage can that uses smart
technology to manage garbage in the town. In UAE waste has increased to 11.9 million
tons as recorded in the year 2013. Looking at the serious environmental threat Eco Smart
Trash came up with an innovative idea to design a product that would help help in
reducing waste from the town aiming at reduction of wastes of UAE. The company has
planned to start their project from the city Al Ain. The smart cans would be managing the
wastes by dividing the trash in three categories mainly, food trash, glass, paper and
plastic. The main customers are beauty salon, Medical clinic, restaurants, garden area and
shopping malls. The money that is involved in the industry is more than 82 billion us
dollars. The increasing environmental concerns and the need for waste management has
created a need for waste management and innovation in this industry. The economic
expansion has led to an increase in the number of industries, with the increase in the
number of industries the waste is also increasing (Chin & Callaghan, 2014).
Eco smart trash is an automated garbage collection system, it has a U-Dump
sensor which sends signals to the central office when the garbage is full. After the
message has been sent to the central office, they send garbage truck for garbage
collection, the truck has a location sensor that helps in picking up the full trashcans of the
city. The trashcan is smart and has separate sections for food, paper and plastics (Galina
& Umar, 2017).

Competitor analysis
Only few companies are operating in these sector, in UAE Bee’ah is another
company that is based in Sharjah that offers smart trash for garbage management. The
city of Sharjah has been installed with smart trash bins which has open Wi-Fi access that
sends signals to the operator when it is full and is required to be emptied.
Bee’ah
BigBelly designed the trash bins, which is one of the leading companies that
provide bin solutions in US. The solar panels in the bins which provides energy to the
internal compactor which lets the bin to collects garbage five times more and also helps
to refuse taking trash when it is full (Galina & Umar, 2017).
Ecube
Another competitor of the company is Ecube, it is not based in UAE but operates
in the same industry providing smart and eco friendly waste management solutions. The
company is based in Seoul, South Korea, the smart trash of the company provides waste
management solutions. The waste management system is eco-friendly and it has been
solving the waste management problems of the city (Galina & Umar, 2017).

value
(Galina & Umar, 2017)
The preceding chart shows the value curve of Eco smart trash compared with its
major competitors of this industry. All three companies are compared on seven criteria,
Design, Battery, Capability, Price value, technology, and energy efficiency and user
experience. The X axis of the chart represents the various criteria of evaluation and the Y
axis represents the score for the companies. Score from 1-2 is low, 3 being average score
and 4-5 being the high score (Giang et al., 2016).
Design
For design eco-smart trash got five score which is average while its competitors
Ecube and Bee’ah got 4 and 3 respectively. The design of eco smart trashcans is very
impressive, because it is made of the modern technology after doing a lot of research, it

has three separate sections for food trash, papers and plastics. The design of its
competitors is not as good as Eco-smart trashcans (Samann, 2017).
Battery
The battery used by Eco-smart trashcan is 4D size batteries, is very good, it is
very energy efficient and does not take much energy or time to get charged. Both Ecube
trashcans and Bee’ah uses solar batteries, which are energy efficient, but during days
when there is no sun, it becomes very difficult for the system to operate properly.
Therefore, Eco-smart trash cans have been rated 5 (Ringenson & Höjer, 2016).
Capacity
All three smart trashcans have huge capacity and have the capacity that can be
extended further. The capacity of Eco-smart is 48 gallons, it is better than its competitor
is because it has separate sections for food trash, plastic and papers.
Price Value
The price of Eco-smart trashcan is very reasonable and less compared to the
competitors, and this is the reason that eco-smart trash cans can be used for household
purposes as well. While Ecube and Bee’ah have high prices and are mostly used in
industries or installed in public places by the Government (Giang et al., 2016).
Technology
The technology used in the industry is very smart with wi-fi, telecommunication
and sensors that send signals to the owner when the trash is full. Ecube gets a higher
score because the telecommunication system in the trash can have a feature that
communicates information in real-time through wireless transmission to the Ecube labs.

Energy efficiency
As far this criteria is concerned the batteries of Eco-Smart trash cans uses 4D
batteries although its charges at a faster rate but the batteries of its competitors, Ecube
and Bee’ah are more energy efficient because they use solar batteries that does not
depend on non-renewable sources of energy (Kalpana & Jayachitra, 2017).
User experience
Ecube being an old company has more customer base but Eco-smart and Bee’ah
are very new companies and therefore they are yet to become popular. Bee’ah is not
popular amongst domestic customers but Eco-smart is very popular among the domestic
customers hence it is rated higher in value curve than Bee’ah (Sheehan & Bruni-Bossio,
2015).
Conclusion
Thus, it can be concluded from the value curve that the overall performance of the
trash cans, Eco-Smart trash can is very good. It has not got low scores in any of the
criteria. Few feature like energy efficiency it got lower score compared to its competitor
but it has its own advantages like during rainy days the trash can of Ecube and Bee’ah
might not be efficiently working but Eco-Smart can work even in rainy days because its
battery does not depend on solar energy. The price of the product is also good and can be
used for domestic purposes but that is not possible in case of Bee’ah because of its high
price. Eco-smart is a new product in this industry and hence there are not much used by
people but Ecube is an old company therefore its ratings are better.
