modern interactive retail book website whereby each person can easily access and search for
a book they want at any time of the day.
Project scope
The project scope for Book House Ltd. is to develop an interactive online retail book website
and mobile application that will provide its users with a more appealing and interactive
platform, which will enable them to search for any book at any time of the day. The relevant
requirements to make this applications possible include the use of modern tools and
technologies which can support both Andiron and IOS software (Brioso, 2015, p.77). The
success of the project will solely rely upon the project manager, Mr. White who is a Chief
Technology Officer together with other stakeholder’s support from the company’s CEO, Mr.
Sharma, and Mrs. Xie Wang the head of marketing and sales and myself as the project
manager. Some of the expected constraints during the project course include cost and
maintaining the project schedule (Davis, 2014, p.193).
Background
Book House Limited is an online retailer of books both hardcopy and electronic operating in
Australia New Zealand. However, in the recent past, the company sales have been dropping
consistently this according to a comprehensive analysis of its customers and visitors behavior
both interacting with their website and mobile apps. The rate of visitors turning into
customers has been falling while the number of customers making transactions as repeated
customers has drastically come down for the past one year. As a result, the Chief Technology

Officer (CTO) Mr. White he believes the fall in the company’s transactions is as a result of
the company’s unappealing website and mobile applications which are not attractive to
customers as well as visitors. Therefore, there is the need to re-engineer the electronic
commerce as well as the mobile applications to make them more attractive through the use of
machine learning to enhance their recommendation engine and user preference profiling.
Success criteria for the project
Accordingly, for Book House limited to become a leaders in the industry it is supposed to
build a website platform that will be more appealing with good recommendation mechanisms
that will allow users to search for any book that they need at any time of the day (Book

first step towards the realisation of Book House Limited becoming a leader in the industry it
should re-engineer its e-commerce site as well as mobile applications to support both
Android and IOS by making them more interactive and appealing to customers and visitors.
In order to increase the company’s annual returns and profits by at least 5% in the next five
years, Book House Limited has to re-engineer its sites from scratch using a more dynamic
and appealing content with the help of modern technologies and tools (Badewi, 2016, p.765).
Indeed, this calls for the redesigning of the user interface the database as well as the web
pages. According to the Chief Technology Officer Mr. White, he suggests that to give the
website a more appealing it has to include a user preference profiling. Accordingly, in doing
so, this will aid to give more personalised recommendations through machine learning as well
as customer loyalty programs to help retain the existing clients.
