Social Media and portals have influenced business to a great extent. The purpose of
the study is to measure the impact of these social media and portals. The portals are one of
the most influential factor. The future of these portals are one of the key factors that will
impact the dynamics of the market. The organization that has been taken into consideration is
eBay. The following paragraphs will give a general overview and discuss the present and
future situation of eBay.
Company Overview
EBay is one of the biggest portal that has been impacting the e-commerce. The
company has set a milestone by providing them a platform to sell their product irrespective of
used and un-used. The portal of the company has enabled them to explore the further and
merge with different companies that would help them sustaining in the market. The company
has revolutionized the market by it trading way which included both B2B and B2C. The
company have also introduced the method of auction and they have also provided the option
which is providing a ‘Buy it now’ programme that enables the consumers for instant
purchase.
Present Status of eBay
EBay is one of the main platform that has implemented such methods that have
changed the factors that have impacted the sector. This platform has enabled the buyer and
seller transact in a platform that has enabled them to interact with several other buyers. Still it
has been seen that there has been significant growth in the user-base of eBay. The platform is
currently serving more than 177 million buyers (Ebayinc.com, 2019). The seller base is also
high as it has been seen that the eBay classified sellers are consisting of more than 250

million sellers (Ebayinc.com, 2019). The earnings of the company reveals that most of the
income that eBay has generated it is coming from the offshore clients. Though eBay has been
a platform does sells used products, eBay is present in more than 192 markets (Ebayinc.com,

Future of eBay
The future of eBay does have a positive approach as the global market is adopting the
e-commerce platform for their business. This e-commerce platform has implemented no
restocking fees of the sellers (pages.ebay.com, 2019). This can help eBay seller as well as the
buyers. This approach is a more profitable approach for the e-commerce platform regarding
the return policies (Abbey, Ketzenberg & Metters 2018). EBay is concerned giving more
competition to the retail stores by suggesting sellers to abide the ‘Retail Standard Return
Policy’ (ebay.com, 2019). The present approach shows that it is more focused on improving
the standards of retail and improve the standards so that the gap between the offline retail and
the online e-commerce platforms who are involved in retailing can be improved.
Conclusion
The e-commerce platform is the future of retail. EBay being one of pioneer in the
industry has changed the way of retailing by adopting many new approaches towards
modifying the way of doing the transaction. The future of eBay looks positive but with the
company have to deal with a fierce competition from the other emerging players.
