Variables included in calculating the economic and cultural impact of the world
cup to host city/country
In the past, hosting mega-events was a privilege for only developed countries but after
2008, most of the developing nations have been in the position to hots different international
competitions(FIFA, 2015). Countries that host the world cup are given the incentive to
increase business alliances, and tourism, create infrastructural development and also promote
international audience(FIFA, 2015). In addition, hosting world cup games is also considered
as a way of spending the nation's investments in various sectors which would not have been
looked at (FIFA, 2015).
However, the opportunity cost of hosting world cup games is high. In this case, a
country is required to invest much money in infrastructure development for the event which
leads to the reduced investment in different public services (FIFA, 2015). In addition, hosting
world cup leads to increased government taxation or borrowing so as to fund the construction
of various infrastructure(FIFA, 2015). The financial constraints faced by the government that
host world cup games are always felt by the public as proved by various protests(FIFA,
2015). For example, in 2014, the people of Brazil protested for because of the high
government spending in the preparation for the world cup. In addition, hosting world cup
games leads to corruption and insufficient government. Therefore, hosting world cup games
creates greater challenges to the host country/city (The World Bank Group, 2015).
Factors that would contribute to host a successful women's cup in 2015
In this case, the successful hosting of Women's World Cup in 2015 would accelerated
by the following factors; first, infrastructural development(FIFA, 2015); in case, the fracture
of the host country was developed, it would not spend much money hence making the event a
success(The World Bank Group, 2015). This would also give chance for the host country to
invest money in other different sectors.

As per the The World Bank Group (2015) good governance is very significant in
hosting a successful women’s cup ; in this case, the good government would be in the
position to appropriately use all the money allocated for preparing the event(The World Bank
Group, 2015). when it comes to high spending, the government is supposed to play a big role
to see that the money is well monitored so as to attain success in the event(The World Bank
Group, 2015). To note, good government involves accountability, efficient and effective
management and transparency (FIFA, 2015).
Last, economic development; if the host country was economically well off, it would
not borrow money to prepare for the world cup but instead, it would use its own(The World
Bank Group, 2015). IN this case, money spent on preparing world cup would not affect the
general public. Therefore, hosting a successful women’ world cup in 2015 required a country
to be economically stable (The World Bank Group, 2015).
