TASK
Are high streets shop closures positive or negative for society?
Closure of the high street shop can have the lasting and widespread impact on society.
Closure of the high street shops develops negative impact on the society as well as on overall
economic development. High street is complex social spatial entity that is facing the specific
issues to viability in context to cultural as well as economic changes in society (Cavan, 2016).
Perhaps obvious impact of closure of high street shops is one revenue as well as profitability of
the retailers. Shop closure reflects crisis on high street that has cost tens of the thousand jobs.
The high streets have been heart of UK town, there appears to be fundamental requirement for
the local councils and business firm to adapt to radical changes which impacting retail sector.
This helps in preserve financial and also high street viability. E- commerce tax legislations are
adopted and municipalities will be continuing to face the financial issues and close of more high
street shops. On the other hand, while attention is mainly focused on impact on finances of
company, closure of the high street shops can set off the negative impact on business which
come at cost to the society (Jones and Livingstone, 2018). It is necessary for government to take
the appropriate actions to reduce the closure of high street shops and enhance economic
development.
