2POVERTY AND INEQUALITY IN ENGLAND
Introduction
One of the major issues faced by England today is increasing economic inequality and
poverty. Unequal distribution of wages amongst the citizens creates a huge divide between
the upper and the lower economic class.
Economic Inequality and Health
Studies have shown the intricate relationship shared by economic inequalities and
health inequalities. Children who belong to low-income group families have a higher chance
of getting malnourished and obese. The higher income group families are entitled to healthier
babies than the rest. These low-income group children are more likely to have bad teeth
because of unhealthy eating and cleaning practices. So much so that, children from the lower
income groups, tend to face more accidents than the rest. Economic inequality strikes the
children even before they are born. The health and well-being of these children depend on
their parents’ economic status.
Poverty and Poor Health
England is facing grave issues regarding constantly rising poverty and its inextricable
relation with health issues. Poverty and poor health depend on each other to form a closed
loop where poor health leads to more poverty and vice-versa. Throughout the year, a good
section of the low-income group, gets affected by deadly tropical diseases and lose their lives
in lack of proper medication.
Fighting Poverty and Health Issues
In order to tackle poor health issues, poverty in England must be brought under
control. The various ways how poverty and poor health can be controlled are given below:

3POVERTY AND INEQUALITY IN ENGLAND
A structural change is required in the economic scenario of England in order to
control poverty and health loss.
The relatively poorer sections of England do not have access to basic amenities like
healthcare, knowledge and access to health services. Therefore, inequality in
economy reflects in inequality in the share of good health.
Conclusion
To conclude, England has been facing serious economic challenges that pose grave
threats of crumbling health standards, standard of living and increasing economic disparity.
