TOURSIM PROPOSAL
The impact of tourism provides the evidence that it is of vital economic importance. Apart from
being a source of employment and income in cities, it also acts as a key factor in the balance of
payment for many cities and nations. Kraph (1961) in his pioneer paper stated that tourism has a
vital function in the development of countries. This is due to the exploitation of the natural
resources and generation of employment and multiplier effect in addition to balanced growth. He
concluded that tourism could generate a large amount of capital which can be used in other
sectors of the economy. There have been studies on resident perception of tourism impacts. The
studies have evidenced that residents of cities feel that tourism improves the economy. Tourism
also helps the host city and nation earn a form of foreign exchange. There also the generation of
employment and improve the revenue of local business and shopping facilities. There are
establishment and offering of various types of services and also serving local inhabitants.
Tourism also has relation to foreign domination of the various services and facilities offered to
tourists. Many researchers conclude that the economic impacts of tourism outweigh the social
impacts with the emphasis being on employment opportunities, the standard of living, cost of
living and the revenue the city gains from tourism activities.
