OPINION EDITORIAL 2
In today’s world, the population of children yearning for education is increasing day by day.
Parents do their part of sending the children to school. However, it the duty of the government to
provide the necessary resources to support the child’s learning from primary to the university
level. The citizens pay a lot of taxes to the government, and therefore they expect the
government to support the free education (Mitchell, Palacios and Leachman, 2014).
Consequently, the government has been reducing the amount of money they send to schools
daily. In this task, the solution is going to elaborate on cuts in government funding for education
as an issue related to human dignity and the common good. The problem of funding education is
directly related to my course as Bachler of business administration because now am a student
and in future, I would be a government official.
Human dignity refers to the condition whereby an individual has self-respect and possess the
attribute of integrity. About the topic of cuts in government funding to education, the Catholic
social teaching expects everyone to treat one another as brothers and sisters. You must be
responsible for the resources allocated to fellow human beings. In all countries, the citizens pay
tax for the government to get back services in the society like free education. However, the
people responsible for the funds end up misusing all of it, and the rest remain without services.
These people are not integral, and they lack self-respect attributed by human dignity in the
Catholic teachings (Massaro, 2015). People who have self-esteem knows that the resources do
not belong to themselves but it's for the people. Students need more than classrooms in
education. They need books, qualified teachers, advanced technology to ease learning among
many others. When the government fails to provide the children with funds to purchase books
and other resources, these children come out of school half-baked, and they keep on talking
about insufficient resources they had in school. In some cases, the graduates may fail to uphold

human dignity in the society because of what they have passed through in school. The issue of
cutting school funds is directly related to human dignity because the people in government who
fail or cut the money set aside for education lack integrity and that is against Catholic teachings.
Common good focuses on addressing the needs of all people regardless of their status ((Novak,
2017). If it is a matter of the society, it should benefit every. However, the government action of
cutting school funds is contrary to the common good idea. One may consider a situation whereby
if the government cuts the school’s funding, the rich people in the society take their children to
the best private schools. On the other side, the poor have no choice but to remain in that public
school that has inadequate resources because he or she has no choice (Tilak, 2015). Such a
situation is not rendered as a common good, but only a few people enjoy as others suffer. The
Catholic Social Teaching insist that everyone should be another person’s keeper. The
government may have various reasons for cutting funds belong to education. One of the reasons
may be to balance the developments in the country. What the government is failing to notice is
that other people have been misusing the money and that is why it ends up being insufficient for
all schools (Parsons, 2017). It would have been necessary for the authority to deal with the
corrupt people before going for an option of cutting the government funding for schools. Human
beings are the unique creatures from God, and the Catholic Teachings requires everyone to
respect one another. Having human dignity is a way of showing respect.
Conclusion
The matter concerning government cuts on education funding is directly related to the field of
bachelor of business administration in that all the student need resources to ensure they get
quality skills. In the future, if the course leads me to be a government officer, I would like to
address this issue by creating awareness to other government officers that misusing funds meant
