Modern theory of play and their applications
Psychanalytiques theory- This theory was propounded by the Sigmud Freud and he state
that play is like a caratharsis which helps child in expressing their feelings. By using play
children’s remove their fear, doubt and false ideas which are negative emotions among
them (Iwasaki and et.al., 2013). Through play children’s remove these negative things
and develop positive things among them. This thing can be understand by simple
example that many children’s frightened from darkness in room. When they play a
hidden game then hide in small places and by doing this their fear about darkness
removed. Thus, in this way play remove negative things from the children life and instill
many positive things among them.
Arousal modulation theory- This theory was propounded by the Daniel Berlyne and he
states those children’s play games in order to regulate their level of arousal in central
nervous system. As per this theory children’s level of excitement is very high and when
they see new things they become highly excited (Trautwein and et.al., 2012). It can also
be said that when children’s see anything in which they have lots of interest they get
excited. It has been seen in the research that children’s have lot of excitement in play and
through this many new things can be teaches to the children’s and their mental power can
be increased. Like if children are in small age start playing chess their mind will get
developed in strategy formulation. Thus, play can be used as an instrument of learning in
the educational institutes.
Meta-communication theory- This theory was developed by Gregory Bateson and under
this he state that children’s play games in order to learn authencity of life. By doing
things in practical they believe in what they listen from the people. For example
children’s from childhood listen that there is a police that catch thief’s for wrong things
they do. In order to check its authencity children’s normally playing police thief game
(Francesco, Mathieu. and Sénéchal, 2012). Parent does not tell children’s about this game
because they does not have so much time in order to involve in such things. It is
children’s who try to verify what they listen from the people. Hence, as per this theory
students learn many things through communication process in which they are involved
with other people.
