Annotated Bibliography
AI Summary
This annotated bibliography, created for the ECTPP302A Reflective and Professional Practice course, explores the creation of educational environments that engage, educate, and respect all participants. It analyzes three key articles: Berris & Miller (2011), Davis, Eivers & Thorpe (2012), and Connor (2011). The bibliography examines the impact of physical environments on early learning, the importance of quality in childcare settings, and the design of indoor learning spaces. The analysis highlights the significance of spatial quality, including noise, light, and materials, and emphasizes the integration of indoor and outdoor learning environments. The conclusion suggests recommendations for educators, families, and policymakers to prioritize children's well-being, support early care, and build partnerships to enhance learning environments. This annotated bibliography provides valuable insights into creating sustainable and effective educational settings for children's development.

ECTPP302A Reflective and Professional Practice
Introduction
The report is based on writing an annotated bibliography on a recent topic. This
annotated bibliography is going to narrate how we can make our educational environments,
living spaces that engage, educate and respect all participants. In the context of ECTPP302A
Reflective and Professional Practice, this discussion will provide insights related to
sustainable environments. In this way, with the help of this annotated bibliography
educational environments and positive learning will be discussed. The three core readings for
writing annotated bibliography are (Berris & Miller, 2011), (Davis, Eivers & Thorpe, 2012)
and (Connor, 2011).
Annotated Bibliography
The research study conducted by (Berris & Miller, 2011) is all about exploring the
importance, as well as the quality of the physical, environs of two early learning centers. This
research was conducted for understanding how design may leave impact on children’s
development as well as a quantitative rating. The authors have assessed the quality of the
surrounding environment as well as infrastructure. The research has found that an increased
awareness globally of the importance of early phase learning. This study has also found an
impact on the children as well as the broader implications of early learning over the economic
and social capacity of nations as well as communities.
In the context of the educational environment, the role of the surroundings, as well as
children’s learning capabilities, has been discussed in detail. When the authors conducted this
research then they found that early childhood learning depends on the willingness of the child
as well. Moreover, the research study has explored space fostering independence, exploration
along with overall development. Besides, the discussion has assessed the different impacts of
spatial quality include noise, space, light, materials, and color. In addition to that, an
integration of outdoors with the suggested indoor environment has been explored and
explained in-depth. In this context, both the indoor and outdoor surroundings matter a lot

when it comes to the overall growth and development of an individual as learner. Here, one
can observe wide integration of broader community as it is directly related to physical
environment which affects children's development.
The journal article written by (Davis, Eivers & Thorpe, 2012), is describing how
quality is more important in the context of childcare environments. The authors have
researched how quality acts when one is quirky. In this context, the study has reviewed the
literature on differential susceptibility to childcare environs. The analysis of this study
suggests that childcare and development are highly affected by quality learning
environments. It has been found that authors have provided so much evidence in relation to
children's development especially for the surroundings which are responsive, as well as
favorable for learning. Moreover, this research has talked about behavioural and social
outcomes in response to positive learning environments for children's growth. However, the
authors have suggested that the extent of such effect is not as huge as might have anticipated.
In addition to that, minority of children are much reactive to negative as well as positive
learning environments. Contrary, this study found that majority of the learners from children
are relatively unaffected from learning environs. Apart from this, the differential
susceptibility theory has also been discussed in this research study.
The research has analysed that the term 'quirky' children means children having
temperamental traits. The term has explained as 'difficult temperaments' in the context of
early childhood development. In this way, chosen research study has successfully reviewed
the literature in relation to children's growth. The study has also argued for the requirement
for future research in order to find components of childcare environments that effectively
optimise the potential of sensitive, quirky people.

This discussion is all about learning indoor spaces in relation to early childhood
education in Australia (Connor, 2011). As we know that learning environs are those
welcoming spaces that enrich as well as reflect the lives and thereby find the families and
children participating within the setting. In addition to that, indoor and outdoor learning
environs support every aspect of children’s learning as well as invite conversations amid
families, their children, broader community and early childhood educators. Effective early
childhood education always promotes diverse opportunities for highly sustained mutual
thinking as well as collaborative learning. With the help of this research some major aspects
of early childhood environs have been identified as:
Temporal: associated with timetables and routines
Physical: associated with the company as well as aesthetics for learning
Interactional: associated with social interactions amid adults and children
Conclusion and Recommendations
In whole, with the help of the above-mentioned annotated bibliography several ways
how one can make our educational environs living spaces that can educate, respect as well as
engage all the learner participants. The report has used three journal articles and important
readings for narrating on childhood education and development. Furthermore, some useful
future recommendations can be as follows:
1. Early childhood educators should focus first on children's health, safety, and
happiness.
2. Families should always support early care as well as educational workforce.
3. People and families should use observations as well as assessments for supporting
every child's educational demands all across all developmental domains from the
childhood development perspective.
4. Educators should always build a culture of constant quality improvement.
5. Family members and parents should build partnerships in order to support quality in
learning environments.
6. Both the indoor and outdoor learning environs must be taken into consideration while
focusing on early childhood growth.
