INTRODUCTION
Business communication is defined as information
sharing among employees in an organisation so that
operations & activities can be performed with full efficiency.
This poster is going to discuss about communication barrier,
strategies to overcome it and impact of cultural awareness in
Mr. Fishy which is a London based chips and fish restaurant.
MAIN BODY
Barriers to effective communication
Mr Fishy is a restaurant situated near London Bridge
station which employs a staff of 20 people from both Britain
and Outside. Due to the possibility of Britain exit from EU,
conflicts among non-British and British staff has increased.
This has results some in communication barriers which are
mentioned below:
Inattention during conversations: This is the main
reason which leads to communication gap among
workforce. Due to different goals and targets, staff
of Mr Fishy do not give attention to the opinion of
each other.
Too much formality: Due to the chance of
Brexit taking place, employees in Mr Fishy are
facing conflicts. This has resulted in having
conversations with formality. This impacts
business of restaurant in negative manner.
Cultural difference: Employees in Mr. Fishy
are of different age, perception and background
due to which they have cultural differences.
This results in less interaction with one another
due to which communication issue is faced
among workplace.
Strategies to overcame barriers
Strategies to overcome above mentioned
communication challenges and barriers are mentioned below:
Respect cultural differences: Workers in Mr Fishy are
needed to learn cross culture. This will benefit them in
respecting each other due to which they will be able to
communicate in a comfortable manner.
Promote open conversations: By adopting open
conversations at workplace, workers will be able to give
proper attention to one another due to which issues
related with too much formality will be resolved.
Avoid Jargon and slang: This strategy includes
the use of simple words and vocabulary when
employees interact with each other. This will help
them to understand the perception of each other in
a proper manner which will results in effective
communication.
Impact of cultural awareness in restaurant
Also, business communication is linked with the
manner in which employees of an organisation interacts to
take right business decisions. In order to sustain strong
communication and interaction at workplace, cultural
awareness is needed. Cultural awareness will help the staff
of Mr. Fishy to respect each other and work in a
coordinated manner. Also, awareness in culture will
improves interaction and communication among
employees. This will allow the restaurant to fulfil the
needs of customers in efficient manner so that high
revenues and profits can be earned.
CONCLUSION
This poster concludes that effective
communication is essential to create strong
relation among workforce. Different barriers
of communication like cultural difference
and formality can be overcome by avoiding
slang and supporting open conversations.
Cultural awareness’s in employees will
became them more tolerant so that activities
at workplace can be performed with unity
and efficiency.
