Introduction:
Effective communication can be stated as the proper interaction between the employees and
the managers and the administrative body using various methods of communication like
verbal, non-verbal, physical and several others to create an efficient business environment,
establish a relationship between the employees and workers and to adopt a friendly
interaction process within the organisation (Austin et al ., 2015).
In this study, a critically scrutinised report has been prepared about the various types of
effective communication and the various effects of them have been discussed in detail.
Walmart, which is a premium retail outlet across the world, has been taken as the model
organisation and the various ways in which the various the organisation operates has been
shown. The relationships between the employees and the management have been discussed as
is the various modes of communication used. A deep analysis has also been done to show the
impact these types of communication has on the business, with Walmart as the model
organisation. The importance that they have in any business organisation has been elaborated
as well.

Discuss the role of effective communication within management.
In modern business structure communication has become very important, especially as
organisations are making more and more efforts to lessen the gap between its employees and
administrators. Better understanding of each other’s problems within an organisation and an
open and friendly atmosphere promotes better functioning and thus creates a positive
reputation about the company.
Other than the above, smooth and effective communication instils a feeling of confidence in
the employees. During my time in Walmart, I found out that there was a rather friendly
exchange of thoughts and ideas amongst the staff. There were very few barriers, and if any
were found to exist that feeling of rigidness was solved by friendly exchanges. The
organisation encouraged both verbal and non-verbal communication, although it must be said
that there were certain lags when it came to feedbacks from e-mails. I was constantly
encouraged to take an active role in managerial discussions where all our problems were
discussed in details in face-to-face conversations and the administration made their best
efforts in bringing about a solution.
Effective communication also enhances the attitude of the employees as a well-informed
person can always perform their task in a better and efficient way. The confidence that they
get for a high level of efficiency motivates them even further and their attitude exudes a
positive vibe. With globalisation gaining more grounds as the days go by, no kind of business
can survive without having an appropriate connect with the outside world. The amount of
outreach that Walmart had and the way they could forecast the demands of the people
astounded me at times. They have used the online marketing platforms wisely and have
appealed to the younger consumers in the process. They made extensive research on the
demands of the population and promoted their products accordingly on the various social
media portals (Linton et al ., 2016).
Achieving the organisational goals is one of the topmost priorities of any company. As
already discussed above, proper sharing of information and making sure the employees
understand the various rules and regulations of the organisation should be the responsibility
of the management in general and the Human resources in particular. To remain an effective
competitor in the race to achieve that ever-elusive top position, Walmart, I found out, took
special interest and pays special attention to information dissemination, which is the reason
why it has been able to overcome many issues and ensured that the whole team was in perfect

sync. If a team does not communicate with each other effectively this synchronisation is
really hard to achieve. In addition, no goals can ever be achieved if the team members are
misinformed.
To establish an environment of honesty and loyalty it is very important indeed to ensure that
the employees do not hesitate to convey their feelings to the respective bosses. This also
promotes an environment of job satisfaction as the member feels confident that the
management has their backs. They can perform their job more efficiently without worrying
about anything else. Productivity is also affected positively as the team members as a whole
are well informed about the proper usage of various resources. This in turn affects the amount
of business that is generated (Bonaccio et al ., 2016).
As already discussed briefly effective communication helps to create a bond between the
employee and the employer. The form in which the interaction is done also affects the level
to which the relationship is formed. I was pleased to find that Walmart always paid attention
to creating and maintaining an informal and friendly relationship with its employees and this
had a strong imprint on the team spirit. They feel morally uplifted and is encouraged to work
harder and improve themselves and the organisation as well in the process. If there is any
kind of confusion about the information being conveyed then the work at hand will obviously
be hampered. This may cause a communication gap between the two, which in turn causes a
feeling of irritation, and discontent. Sometimes the goal may not be approached from the
right angle because of this confusion for which the employee may come under pressure from
above. The bosses needs to be aware about the type of function that has been allotted so that
they can convey the same properly to his subordinates or else the worker can quite easily
misunderstand and perform inappropriately (Kwiatkowski 2017).

Communication is the process of transaction of information between individuals or groups
and the mode of transfer of information could be verbal, non verbal or written. Business
communication is the mediums used by an organisation to flow information and maintain the
network among the customers and employees inside a system. For the business to function
smoothly and effectively communication is necessary. An updated and transparent mode of
communication enhances the business with efficiency and ease (Kernbach et al .,2015)
Wal-Mart inc. being a huge private organisation and one of the top listed in the retail business
needs to introduce updated and better quality ideas and methods of communication. Walmart
is a company which primarily deals with public interactions therefore the most preferred
mode of communication needs to be the verbal or face to face communication. (Breitenstein
et al ., 2016). Though there has been a huge technological advancement in the field of
communication and promotions and advertisements are easier to distribute and receive but the
retail the section of Walmart deals with the customers in flesh and there the primary mode of
communication needs to be verbal and with technological advancements digital
communication also provides a faster mode to share a huge amount of information to the
customers like active sales and discounts or other necessary information. Social media also
works as a quicker medium for communicating and promoting the company’s policies and
procedures, for promotion of products and a detailed structure which the users are able to
access from their own room. Walmart’s digital communication platform also serves as a
communicating medium between the company ideas and concerned customers who are able
to compare, examine and understand the products in details (Bhatia 2014).
The concept of communication also involves transparent communication among the company
executives and employees, again the primary and most efficient mode of communication
being the verbal communication among teammates and the system. However Walmart
follows a rather formal approach for communicating with employees which includes
meetings between executives and communication through email for transferring necessary
information. Email is quite common as a mode of communication among organisations and
also provides a formal approach. The employees are contacted via emails and formal letters
for official statements and procedures. If an employee needs a leave then he or she needs to

present an official letter to the human resource management department of Walmart. Official
recruitment contracts, approval letters and offer letters are also presented via emails or hard
copy letters. In case of dismissal or transfer or other official policy information emails are the
main medium of communication. In the higher slabs of management like the executives or
board of directors frequent communication is necessary for discussion of company issues and
product development factors. For these kinds of discussions Walmart like any other
organisation participates into frequent meeting among the leaders and executives. Meetings
are done face to face verbally or even via online platforms like video calls and phonic calls
for overseas meeting discussing international issues and trades. Walmart has introduced a
Six channel satellite system which basically serves as a advanced mode of communication
between the directors, operating officers and executives for a safer and faster approach
towards international issues all over the globe. Walmart has around 11,690 stores all over the
globe as of 2018 and the company has introduced this system for a transparent
communicating medium between the executive departments and also between the employees.
The main idea is to train and update the workers and employees when there is change of
ideas, policies and procedures.
This mode of audio and video communication is used to make the retailers and the workers
present in the stores aware of new launched products and how to present and promote these
products to the customers. Company policies and procedures are updated on a regular basis,
the legal parameters and the issues regarding a specific product are briefed regularly. For a
perfect and flawless customer service the employees and workers are trained and prepped to
deal and address the customers accordingly. The whole blueprint of tasks and strategies that
the system should follow are shared via this satellite system. The executive and management
department plans and follows the ideas and strategies on an international scale so the
communication satellite system of Walmart plays a major role in escalating the process
(Kasper et al .,2014).

The communication system of an organisation is one of the most important factors that they
need to take into consideration for conducting business. Business communication plays a key
role in promoting and presenting the products of the company, it is necessary for an
organisation to have a firm and transparent mode of communication with the concerned
customers for a better business output. Along with communication with customers it is also
