Communication plays significant role in transmitting and exchanging the necessary
information from one individual to another. Therefore, communication must be precise and clear
so that it should be easily understood by the individual. The present essay focuses on assessing
the concept of communication among the children and young people as well as different skills
that is required to communicate with the young individual and children. Along with this essay
would also assists in gaining insight knowledge regarding adapting the communication to meet
the various requirement of communication.
In order to communicate with different children and young people individual must
requires different skills and abilities that support them in communicating and exchanging their
required information and knowledge to the ultimate individual. While communicating with the
children individual must have soft and decent tone that support them conveying the required
ideas to the children (Guerrero, Andersen and Afifi, 2013). Along with this, another skills needed
to communicate with children include empathizing with the view point of children so that they
can easily understand their requirement and clearly communicate their thoughts. Further, to
communicate with the children individual must also possess effective non-verbal communication
skills so that they can easily understand the children requirement. Communicating with the
young people requires different skills as it supports in making friends as well as enhancing self-
confidence that support them in conveying the required information and knowledge to the
individual. On the other hand, another skills that is needed to communicate with the young
people include attentive listening. It would support the listener in understanding the actual
meaning that is conveyed by the young individual.
It has been assessed that there is difference in the styles of communication that need to be
adopted by the individual or third person so that they can easily communicate with the children
and young people. Further it has been identified that there are different stages of development
that is 0-3 years, 3-7 years, 7-12 years and 12-19 years (Bonetti, Campbell and Gilmore, 2010).
In order to communicate the different age groups individual must adapt different type of
communication for instance, to communicate with children of age group 0-3 years individual
must avoid ambiguous words and language. Along with this, they are initially starting to learn
new vocabulary that results in developing their communication. On the other hand, another stage
include children that are under the age group of 3-7 years these children are very curious to know

about everything thus it asked so many questions. Therefore to communicate with these children
individual need to be patient and allow them proper time to speak their views and thoughts.
Another stage of development include children of age group 7-12 years, children at this stage
have knowledge regarding the language and they are engaged in vocalizing their feelings as well
as ideas. Therefore, to communicate with these children individual must focuses on using formal
communication channel including asking different questions. The last stage of young people
include the age group of 12-19 years, at this stage young people focuses on using different
language and communication styles for various occasions (Communicating effectively with
children and young people, 2014). Therefore, to communicate with them individual must adapt
different communication styles as well as individual must also focuses on communicating with
showing proper respect.
Along with this it has been also assessed that there is difference among the
communicating with adults and children that is while communicating with children individual
must have polite tone and calmly communicate with the children so that they can easily
understand the information and knowledge that is communicated by the individual. Along with
this, while communicating with the children individual must also make sure that child feels
comfortable. On the other hand, the communication with adults is totally different from the
children (van Staa, Jedeloo and Latour, 2011). Individual must focuses on using different modes
of communication to communicate effectively within the adults that is via telephonic
conversation, letter or through video chats etc.
In order to meet different communication needs individual must focuses on adapting
different communication styles and modes that support them in meeting their needs. For
instance, if the children or young people have hearing impairment that can't have verbal
communication. In this situation for communicating with the hearing impairment individual they
must focuses on providing the hearing aid and equipment that support them in clear listening of
the information and knowledge that is circulated by the individual. Another example include of
the young people have permanent visual impairment then it may not engage in presentation or
any video conference as it is not accessible by them (Clark and Moss, 2011). While
communicating with different people teaching assistant must focuses on attaining different
disagreements that need to be deal by them so that they can easily manage their conflict

situation. In order to deal or manage the disagreements between the children teaching assistant
must focuses on reacting and then commenting to the situation so that they can easily manage the
disagreement. Along with this, while communicating with the children assistant would come
down to the eye level and listen to the children so that they may easily deal with their
disagreement. On the other hand, to deal with the disagreement among the young people
teaching assistant must effective listen to their views and thoughts and clear their points rather
than just passing the judgement so that they can easily deal with the disagreement situation
(Effective communication with children, young people and families, 2014). Whereas, to deal with
the disagreement between adults teaching assistant must listen to them and reassure them that
they are performing together and collaboratively to accomplish the same goals. Along with this,
to deal with adults individual must also focus on remain calm but assertive so that they can deal
with adults.
From the above essay it has been concluded that communication plays significant role in
exchanging and transmitting the required knowledge and information so that they can easily
understand the view point and thoughts of each individual. Along with this essay has also sum up
with adopting different communication styles to meet the different communication needs of
individual.
