Introduction
Personality plays an important role in interpersonal communication as identifying
personality type help to be successful in professional and personal life (Tieger
et.al,2014). This essay aims to justify the personality type that I possess and how this
helps me to communicate with others. In the second section, the art of speed read is
explained and how people use this art to improve their communication or whether this
impacts on communication skills of an individual or not. This essay at the end includes
my opinion about whether the art of speed reading helps me to resolve conflict and
communicate with others or not.
Personality Type
The four elements that my personality reflects are ISFP; this is an acronym that used to
define a personality type from sixteen types of personality created by Myers and Briggs.
ISFP stands for “Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Perceiving” (Theriot, 2009). This
personality type reflects me because I am a gentle and calm person and believe in living
the present moment cheerfully. I prefer to go with the flow, take spontaneous decisions
and enjoy my life to the fullest.
The four-letter personality type that I think I am described as follows:
Introversion: Introverts are those that want to spend time along and communicate less
with others. They open up too few of their close members and face difficulties in
communicating with others (Theriot, 2009). I am an introvert personality and focus like

to spend time alone and focus on developing others and communicate with people who
are close to me.
Sensing: This includes experiencing new things and adventures and prefers to live in a
practical scenario (Theriot, 2009). I always try to learn new things and like to take
challenges and communicate with people on the basis of facts and data and considering
the current situation. I am good as a negotiator and a manipulator.
Feeling: This type mainly prefers emotions over any fact and logic as this type of
personality chooses to follow their gut feeling rather than focusing on the things that are
actually happening (Theriot, 2009). I come under this personality type because I prefer to
go with the flow rather than making strategies for the future. I try to solve problems and
communicate my decision to others on the basis of my gut feeling.
Perceiving: This type generally prefers to be spontaneous and flexible (Theriot, 2009). I
am the person who does not make any strategy for future rather prefer to take step
spontaneously. Further, I adapt and change according to the situation and environment.
Hence, from the above personality type, it is summarized that I am an ISFP personality
type with whom I communicate openly with people who are close to me and listen to me
carefully along with that I am a good negotiator and manipulator. I am guided by my own
core values and feel difficulty in communication when people aren’t able to
accommodate my views. Hence, I possess the personality traits of the ISFP type.
Understanding my personality type will help me out to know my strengths and areas of
weaknesses.

The art of speed reading people
In the business world, communication plays an important role as it might help an
individual to crack a deal or to lose a deal. According to Paul et.al, 1991, learning
personality type help to improve the way of communication. The art of speed reading
people aims to identify how different personality types communicate and deal with other
people. Further, the reading includes how body language, tone, and appearance help to
know other personalities and then an individual can communicate with them accordingly.
The art of speed reading works or prove to be helpful as in this a person gets to know
about characteristics of different personality types such as the traits of perceiving is
flexibility and spontaneity hence any person who is flexible can be considered as a person
who possesses perceiving traits (Paul et.al, 1991). From that people can communicate
with other parties by assuming and identified traits of others in the best manner. The art
of speed reading people includes different personality types and the communication style
that can be used to communicate with people that possess those traits. Hence, this is a
helpful tool or guide for improving communication.
However, there is not any ethical concern of speed reading but there are some tricks and
tactics that need to be learned in order to ensure that what an individual perceives or
judged or observed is correct and valuable and helps in to improve communication. For
instance, a person needs to change its communication style when talking to a child and
when talking to the Ph.D. person (Tiger, and Tiger, 1998). Hence, there is no such

ethical method but there are different tactics that help in to learn the art of speed reading
people.
Communicating with others requires skills so that people listen and understand and
accept what an individual is trying to communicate (Tieger et.al,2014). I have some
knowledge about how to communicate some of the things that need to be in mind at the
time of communication includes; people with whom communication is happening, their
level and ability, observing their attitude and then accordingly communicating with them
so that an individual can appealingly put their thoughts in front of other (West, and
Turner,2010). But after reading the book and by learning and understanding the concept
of “the art of speed reading people”, I changed my way of communicating with others.
Earlier, I mainly focus on appearance and class of people and other traits but now I focus
on the type of personality also that individual has as this helps me to know how to
convenience and let other accept my ideas, views, and opinion. Now, by considering the
traits of 16 personalities that I understand from the book I try to know the personality
type of others and then accordingly opt for the communication style. However, it is
difficult for me to learn all the personality types and their traits and the communication
style to be used. The book includes an in-depth analysis of each personality type that is
quite difficult to remember and along with that book covers the role of body language,
movements, gestures and appearance on each personality type. Further, analyzing all
personality types and relating them to communication style is a quite lengthy process and
requires practice and good observation skills.

From this study and knowledge, It can be said that I can handle conflicts in a better way
to some extent. As I learned many aspects and things that help in to communicate
clearly, effectively and appropriately. Hence, by improving my communication skills by
learning the art of speed reading I can better handle conflicts. As I learn how to
communicate with different personality types hence, in order to handle conflict it is
important to understand other viewpoints also so I can say that this will further help in
managing conflicts in a better way.
Conclusion
It is concluded from the essay that the art of speed reading people is a good tool to
improve communication as this book provides insight about different personality types
and how an individual can change the communication style as per the other party
personality types. In order to understand the concept I first identified my personality
type that is ISFP. Later on, I analyzed the ways I communicate with others and examined
and observed that understanding personality type helps improve communication. It is
concluded that personality types play an important role in improving the communication
skills of an individual and this can be improved by learning the art of speed reading
people.
