Awareness of Cultural Influences on Communication and Negotiation
There are several ways through which communication and negotiation are influenced by
culture (Ghaferi and Dimick, 2016). Some of these aspects are discussed below: Opportunity: Different cultures have distinct perspectives regarding negotiations.
Moreover, different individuals tend to behave differently over similar things, based on
their cultural notions and beliefs (Ladegaard and Jenks, 2015). This influences
negotiators regarding having fundamental agreement or disagreement regarding whether
a specific situation is integrative or distributive.
Protocol: One aspect of how culture works within negotiation as well as communication
is protocol, which refers to perception of formality of relations between two negotiating
parties (Mehrabian, 2017). While a culture might consider a formal argument, the other
party might not present argument of the same sort.
