The strategy that can help in ensuring academic integrity of the students is building
their knowledge along with skills. Academic honesty is crucial for the purpose of higher
education and the University should ensure that academic honesty has been promoted in the
classroom. The students should provide proper citation and they should respect the academic
endeavours of other people (Cronan, Mullins & Douglas, 2018). The students violating the
academic standards should be subjected to rigorous disciplinary action. The instructors
should spell out the honest expectations from the students and teach the students citation
skills. The instructors should emphasize on the educational benefits in relation to a course
and they should be able to address any case of suspected academic honesty.
The Four R’s that can help in avoiding plagiarism- reword, rephrase, restructure and
recheck (Raines, 2016). My paraphrasing strategy comprises of reading the original passage
and looking up in the dictionary for the words whose meanings I do not know of. This can
help me in preventing any case of paraphrasing and it can help me in gauging the intention
behind the words of the authors. I try to address the idea of the author in a manner that is
novel in my unique writing style. I tend to look for any kind of borrowed word or phrase that
has been taken from original passage. I try to include the citation that contains the name of
the author, year and that of the paragraph year. I try to reflect and produce ideas on the basis
of what has been read (Bretag et al., 2014). I try to differentiate important points from the
ones that are less pertinent. In the event of my writing, I try to restate the salient points in a
manner that is efficient. My strength lies in the fact that I can easily understand the point of
view of other people that helps me in putting it down very easily in my own words. One
opportunity in relation to improvement is the arena of learning the meanings of complex
words that can help me in the art of paraphrasing (Macfarlane, Zhang & Pun, 2014).
In the event of paraphrasing the longer passages, I try to restructure the order of
presentation of the ideas. This is an important principle that can help in preventing any kind

of plagiarism. I try to present my own ideas and provide my own point of view while writing
that proves to be fruitful in avoiding any instance of plagiarism. I try to use the quotation
marks when I am using the phrases or words of any other author that proves to be an
important step in preventing academic misconduct. The sentence structure should be my own
and I take due care of the fact that paraphrased text rightly reflects the meaning of the
original author. I try to use the tone that is appropriate for the audience and strive for the
creation of a smooth seamless text. I try to internalize meaning that has been conveyed with
the help of the text that helps me in maintaining academic integrity.
