INTRODUCTION
This presentation aims to satisfy the need to be an effective student and secure personal
development through enhancing relevant set of skills. Effective students are those who have
effective skills to perform their responsibility and be able to archive their targets by taking
proper acknowledgement towards the need of self development. Self development is an
essential activities for a student to avoid barriers in achieving the aims and build career for better
future (Johny, and 2020). A student must have sense of ability towards others, responsibilities
of own task and activities and functional behaviours towards attending classes, managing work
and develop assessments with good communication, time management, evaluation and
leadership skills. The presentation will carry out the significance of other skills that must be
present in an effective student for personal development. It will demonstrate the requirement of
time management, team work, presentation, and communication skills.

Communication skills:
A student perform numerous activities at their education level. They need to interact with
teams, peers, teachers and other individual who came in their way. Communication skills is the
most vital and required on both academic and professional level. The development of these skills
gets started with academic level when students goes through so many task like classroom
presentation, question and answers, group discussion, debates, speeches and other curriculum
activities. Effective communication skills make the student confident and able to present and
share information, facts and their knowledge in an understandable manner. Communication skills
are also divided in separate parts which has its own important in the field of learning and
development:
Oral communication skills: this set of communication represent how an individual talks,
share and present their knowledge to other (Vyas, 2018). These skills are necessary to regulate
verbal communication in which student will speak their thoughts and ideas in their native
language. Oral communication is necessary to be active and attentive during the classroom
lectures. It allows the student to ask questions frequently and solve their doubts at initial level.
An effective student will not sit quite in classroom whereas, they will take participate in making

conversation with peers and teachers. These skills includes areas of presentation, speeches,
lectures, debates in formal manner. Whereas, group discussion, interpersonal relations, meetings
and quizzes are a part of informal communication.
Written communication skills: this kind of communication skills helps in making the
student able to present their thoughts and ideas through writing. At academic level, student gets
many assessments, projects reports and essay writing which helps them to implement their
knowledge in such a manner that the reader will easily understand the purpose and viewpoint of
the student. This will helps the student to score good grades and get the graduation degree from
their university. A student must able to use words where appropriate and present findings,
evaluation and self reflection in written form (Nurlaela, 2020). This eliminates the difference
between formal and informal writing as student gets able to differentiate in writing a letter to
friend and preparing academic reports.
Importance of communication skills for effective student: an effective individual will
have both sets of communication area in oral and written form. Communication skills enable
delivering of thoughts and improve the knowledge of students which make them more superior
in their work. They will be able to speak and thought in complex situation which will lead to
sound development of the student. It helps in enhancing self centred skills and be confident in
own words that would initiate others. With the help of written communication, the student will
be able to enhance the quality of assignments and be the top ranker in the class. This includes
perfection in grammar, knowledge of vocabulary and good sentence formation. Through which,
the student will easily convey their viewpoints and ideas to the reader.
Ways to develop effective communication skills in a student: there are many ways
around the corner which helps the student to enhance their communication skills. The first need
is to be fluent in language by correcting grammatical mistakes, right use of words and tenses. A
good communication skills could be enhance through being indulge in regular practice of
delivering thoughts and ideas in the classroom (Xu, and Hickey, 2021). The student must be
active during lectures to ask the questions and take participate in school or college seminars,
debates and speeches. Speak as much as possible, listen to English films and music to adopt the
right accent and invest time in reading newspaper.
In order to develop good written communication skills, the student need to indulge more
in delivering projects, make reading a first priority. The more student will read, the more it

would analyse the concept and criteria of delivering ideas in appropriate manner. Always try to
write in concise manner and void repetition of word it would lead to disinterest the reader.
Time management skills:
Time is the key for every individual to attain success and fulfil personal aims and
objectives within limited period. Managing time is the most required skills for the students who
perform a lot of tasks and activities during a day. A student needs to go through with many areas
at academic, Professional and personal life which require time segments and divides each
activities as per its importance. It helps in dividing the most important task within a set time
period so that, the deadlines would never be missed out.
Importance of time management skills to be an effective student: time management is
the most crucial skills for a student. It will make them understand about the seriousness of
managing work within set deadlines. they will plan and create a proper structure by listing the
priority task at the top so that, it would not get missed (Hiranrat, and Harncharnchai, 2018). It
is significant for student to carry out a lot id activities which are also a necessary part of their life
by giving proper time to each activities and avoid work pressure and burden. It is necessary to
put more emphasize on getting good results rather than only keeping oneself indulge in work.
For Example, It will give 2 hours daily for my projects to meet with the deadline and project
requirement effectively.
Ways to enhance and improve time management skills: As it is one of the most
crucial skill for which student need to undertake a systemic routine of their daily schedule. The
most effective way is to prepare To-Do list, time table and set daily targets to perform the most
prioritise activity. Carry out work by keeps on checking its deadline and taking breaks are also
necessary to give relaxing time for mental health of a student. The time and tasks are interrelated
aspects as individual will limit a time according to the complexity of tasks. More complex task
would be require much time fr its completion (Cabrera, and Mauricio, 2017). The students
needs to indulge in long terms and short term planning for specifying the resources and
approaches which are going to be used for tasks completion.
Barriers may effect efficiency of student: there are a lot of barriers to time management
which will work as hurdles in achieving set targets. These barriers are feeling of procrastination,
irresponsibility, uncleared aims and purpose and many others that will make the student apart
from the right track. There are some factors which must be neglect to excess the set time targets.

An effective students needs not to much indulge in using mobiles, television and excessive
sleep. It will make an irresponsible behaviour towards work goals. The other barriers which
comes such as lack on attention during classroom lectures which may not clearly set the purpose
. The student needs to focus on the need for managing time to eliminate all these barriers and
adopt positive ways by making slight changes in lifestyle and daily schedules.
Research skills:
These skills can be defined as the ability to take a deep and in-depth information and
facts regarding research topic. These skills assures how an individual could analyse and evaluate
the concept and present it in own findings. It is basically all about collecting data, making project
plans, set findings and present own thoughts and carry out in-depth knowledge about a relevant
topic by sourcing it with proper referencing.
Importance of research skills for an effective student:
These skills are important for a student to carry out academic projects. Research are the
most relevant skills that developed the ability to demonstrate the facts and information by taking
a broad research. An effective students will lead to make time for research the whole concept
and develop their own findings which will reflect their understanding by making critical
evaluation (Purves, and Himonides, 2021). Research skills include avoid plagiarism, talks about
relevant concept, collect data within the limitations of its consent and keeps the academic
integrity by not being indulge in any academic misconduct. It helps the student to make an
understanding upon data collection method d and how it could be used for different purpose. The
importance includes the necessity of research as a good career option for the students which will
helps them to get degree for Phd.
Ways to improve research skills: An individual could make their best catch on research
skills through various ways. They need to look for taking more research projects, Get assistance
with teachers and professor, be acknowledged about the norms of academic integrity and build
reports in own words. These skills will be develop more by regular practices and helps in
adopting an remembering various research methods (Oliveros, and Vaz-Serra, 2018). Develop
more of writing skills in an attractive way using new words, paraphrasing skills and analysing
information by doing deep study. The main areas of improvising research skills is to demonstrate
own visions and objective that will helps in fulling research gaps which will satisfy the whole

need of research topic. A student needs to develop the habit of exploring new things it will help
in boosting knowledge and an ability to capture broad concept.
Presentation skills:
These skills are the most common and desired in every field for an individual. Whether
on academic or professional level, presentation skills are yet vital to communicate with other in
a professional manner. These presentation carries a lot of information, formatting and
appropriate structure which can catch the attention of audience. It can say that, it is a systematic
way to demonstrate an understanding over topic through pictures, tables and media. It is an
opportunity to represent own research in an unique way and enable effective communication
among audience (Seema, 2021). Good presentation are the effective as to motivate others and
make them understand about own opinion which will be beneficial for career development.
Presentations must be accurate and made under a standard format. Many student make numerous
mistakes while delivering presentation which results In bad experience and unsatisfactory work.
Therefore, some common pitfalls must be consider and try not to repeat same in future.
Presentation pitfalls: Many students face problems with delivering presentation as it
took much planning and preparation to achieve the set standards. The students mainly feel less
confident towards their speech, voice and vocabulary that may create negative impact on their
performance therefore, lack of preparation and knowledge of PPT will impact on making
connection with the audience. In addition to this, lack of eye contact, no or less focusing on
audience questions, improper structure and formatting, ineffective backgrounds and mix content
in PPT. These all are common pitfalls which must be improvise for better results.
Ways to improve Presentations: A student may achieve good grades and audience
attention just by focusing on relevant presentation criteria. They need to give proper time for
planning good content for PPT slides, set a theme, engage the audience by showing relevance of
the purpose. A successful presentation involves a suitable and logical language, short and
concise sentences, good use of media, graphs, images and props. The student will enhance these
skills through good practice and prepare presentations most often. Also, they need to be
confident and enthusiastic in delivering thoughts which will inspire others.
Team work
Teamwork may be define as a set of people came together to achieve a common
target/goal in the most effective manner. The concept of teamwork is a great framework of group

of individuals who make efforts in the same direction to achieve objectives. This skill is the most
important skill which is required for a student to learn. The development of these skills in a
student make him a powerful speaker, active listener and polish up the self confidence which
help in to become a successful person in his life. An effective team work ability assist in
developing great leadership quality, effective communication skills, new creative thoughts and
expertise in problem solving.
Importance of team work for a student:-
Improves Communication:- a group is able to work together only when if there is a
good communication between the individuals. If there is a quality of communication in between
the team members then the set goals can be achieve effectively and efficiently.
Improves Self-confidence:- A group with individuals of high confidence can work
harder then individual with low self confidence (Jach, and Trolian, 2021). High self confidence
result in giving high productivity of work and low self confidence consequence in low
productivity of work.
Improves Relationships:- team work allow the group of individual to work together
and help each other to achieve the set target. This simply means that the more you work together
the stronger your connection become.
Improve self awareness:- team work help the individual to improve the behaviour
among the group. It helps in taking sound decision (Mohammed, 2018). This is one of the
important importance of the team work which help in achieving the success in the life.
How teamwork skill is develop:- Teamwork skills could be develop through enhancing
interpersonal relations with peers, engaging in understanding their interest, improve leadership
skills like soft and calm behaviour, use wise words to initiate others.

The presentation has concluded the aim of analysing the need of various skills to be an
effective student. There are a lot of skill find important in the presentation such as
communication, research, teamwork, time management and presentation skills. Therefore, it has
analysed that these skills are mandatory to perform academic practices as well as develop a
career option. The student needs to identify own pitfalls and barriers and adopt proper ways to
develop good skills for carrying out team work, deliver and share information, be an active
listener and speaker both at a time.
