Globalization and advanced technology has changes the way in which business communicate
or exchange information and virtual teams have allowed making communication for different
location irrespective of any parameters. Virtual teams have been introduced in organizations
in to create flexible environment at the work place (Anil and Vijay, 2014). Virtual team’s
allow teams to work together and to maintain good communication so that support can be
built to gain trust and reduces the feeling of isolation.
ADVANTAGE of VTs
The success of virtual teams completely relies on communication and the leadership that
works in a direction to remove all the conflicts. They work in a way that is the paradoxical
situations are handled and team goals are achieved (Anil and Vijay, 2014). The concept of
virtual teams offer major benefits is that it allows employees to remain connected 24*7.
Virtual team has made possible that meeting can be conducted from anywhere without the
need of members to be present at the same physical location. It has eliminated the issue of
physical presence as staff can be connected from any geographical location.
Additionally, it helps in reducing the daily allowances that are needed to connect as virtual
teams communicate via advanced technology. Virtual teams allow organization to recruit
employees in any field from any location.

The basic advantage of virtual team is cost saving of the organization. The association can
decrease the overall raw material cost and operational cost. It allows organization to hire
talent from anywhere from across the globe. It is important to create equal opportunity for all
the employees so that no chances of conflicts arise (Ferrazzi, 2015). Discourage age and race
discrimination can also be reduced by virtual teams. Thus it can be concluded that virtual
team contribute in performance management of employee’s productivity as opposed to other
attributes.
Necessity of VT’s
Virtual teams have become a necessity for several businesses as the business are spread over
boundaries globally. Some of the loopholes that were seen of virtual teams include lack of
expertise that brings up a gap at the side of communication. Thus it can be concluded that
lack of technical knowledge creates poor understanding thus training need to be offered so
that decisions could be taken easily (Ferrazzi, 2015).
Additionally, some of the major advantages of virtual team are that it reduces the travel time
and cost of employees. Employees need not to travel from one location t other they can
directly discuss the goals by using virtual teams. It allows real time conversation and allow in
hiring the best mind people across the globe. It also allows recruitment of talented employees
and it also reduces discrimination. Some of the disadvantages of virtual team are lack of
knowledge about advanced technological applications. By implementing virtual team many
issues can be addressed. The other benefit is that it allows the business services to remain
available all the time (Ferrazzi, 2015). The sub branches are opened at different places that
have different time zones thus it becomes possible to resolve all the issues immediately.
Additionally, the other benefits are that competitive advantage and assure that discrimination
is resolved. It also improves internal as well as external communication in an organization.

Drawback of VT’s
The major drawback of implementing virtual teams is lack of trust and lack of face to face
interaction. This is the reason which leads to poor employee to employee relation and also
causes lack of trust(Bergiel, Bergiel and Balsmeier, 2017) . Virtual team causes lack of
communication which leads to misconception as there are no facial as well as voice tone
factors involved in it. Thus, to make sure that policies that take place at one branch are also
communicated to other can be done by the help of virtual teams (Bergiel, Bergiel and
Balsmeier, 2017). The major critical areas that have been identified are time and language
differences, varied cultural backgrounds, absence of interpersonal relationships and difficulty
in conflict handling. Management must devise policies to resolve the same to get the
maximum benefit from the planned endeavor (Bergiel, Bergiel and Balsmeier, 2017).
Virtual teams support in expanding the business to larger scale that helps in capturing new
market. It helps in improving the productivity and profit margins by understanding the
demand of local market (Anil and Vijay, 2014). It also reduces the time of market response as
the team remains available 24*7 due to different time zones. Thus, it shortens the response to
revert back to the clients.
