An appointment has been set up between the consultant of the company and Leigh Cross,
who is a Rental Account Manager. In the meeting, the grievance with the change that are happening
in the company JKL is going to be discuss. Leigh Cross is new in the company with an experience
of 12 months. Leigh is holding the position of Accounts Manager and very much concerned as well
as angry with the organization for their decision to close the rental division. The organization wants
to propose the changes that are going to take place but it has been notice that Leigh showed his
talents by showing strength in communication, relationship building along with improved employee
relations with the accounts team. The consultant have the knowledge about the organizational
policy to retrain the rental employees. The organization is interested in retraining the talented
employees’ and there is chance offering the Accounts Manager role to Leigh in other department,
which is not confirm yet by higher authority.
The characters here in the role-play are Consultant and Leigh who is the Rental Accounts
Manager with an experience of 12 months in the organization. The meeting has be set up in the
Consultant’s office.
The scene opens as Leigh enters the Consultant office with a worried look in his face by
knocking on the door.
Leigh: Can I come in?
Consultant: Come in.
Leigh: Good morning! I was inform that you have been looking for me.
Consultant: Good morning! Yes I am. Please sit down.

Consultant: I heard good things about you that you possess the qualities of being a leader but there
are something, which you are worried about and also angry at the same time. Please tell me about it
so that I can help you out in the matter.
Leigh: I heard that organization have decided to omit the rental account department and being a
manager I need to know why this decision have been taken by the organization.
Consultant: I know this is a serious issue but company took this decision not to terminate you all
from the organization. The decision is been taken for the betterment of the organization and aim to
grow in the market.
Leigh: These means we will be sack from our job but this is unethical with respect to the
organization’s terms and policy. Before taking any such decision at least, we could have given
notice beforehand so that we can look for other jobs.
Consultant: The organization have decided to omit the department only and retrain talented people
like you so that you all can join the other department and can continue with the job.
Leigh: These is not right as we cannot cope up with the other department job and gradually the
organization will fire us.
Consultant: These is not the exact scenario as you are thinking negatively. The organization do not
want to lose the talents out here so that is the reason why the organization came to a point that
retraining program is need to be carry out. So, that the efficient and talented employees’ like you
can stay and can provide the valuable service to the organization.
Leigh: These is against the ethics as the management is omitting the department completely and
forcing us to join another one. This will automatically demotivate the others to work including me.
Consultant: The change in the department is going to take place, only after providing complete
training keeping in mind the strength and weakness of the employee. There will be motivational
workshop, which is also going to take along with the retraining.

Leigh: What will be my role after completing the retraining program?
Consultant: After completing the retraining program, you might get a position of manager.
However, the higher authority will make this decision. You need to keep trust in the organization as
you are a talented employee and organization do not intend to lose a gem like you. If you going to
remain angry at the organization, it will ultimately affect the performance which you are delivering
until now. The organization is looking forward to you, as you possess the capabilities of a good
leader. I know you are dissatisfied with the organizations decision, which is yet to be implement
but to grow in the market constant change is required.
Leigh: How the organization is going motivate us? Do you think it is important to motivate us?
Consultant: The organization have planned the motivational program in such a way that it will be
concise and will be able to motivate the employees’ including you. There are different motivational
program such as providing recognition to the employees who will display outstanding performance;
positive feedback will be share; training about the changed plan will be provide to you all from the
expert; opportunities will be provided equally to all of you to grow and there will be hike in the
salary structure. Motivation is always an important part, which is require to be look after by the
organization, and we are giving importance to it as you can figure out from our motivational plan.
Consultant: I know till now you are not convinced with the offer that has been put in front of you
but I can assure you that you won’t be demotivated nor the people who are working under you
guidance. You will be enjoying the new process and will be able to grow in the organization along
with the training process, as it has been structure in a creative way possible.
Leigh: What will the organization do if others are not willing to join the other department? How
will the organization then manage to retain them?
Consultant: As a manager, you need to first keep faith and trust in the organization’s decision. The

Everyone possess some vision or thinking and company respect that so we can only request all of
you to adopt the changes.
Leigh: Is there any raise in the pay structure?
Consultant: That depends on the higher authority. First, the organization is concerned about the fact
that whether you all are willing to do retraining program and join other department or not. I can
suggest you one thing if you are ready to accept the decision as well as others then being a manager
it is your duty to talk to the higher authority about the raise in the pay structure. The company is
willing to accept input from your end as well. The query, which you are having, should be raise
during the interactive session with the higher authorities. If you raise it this will display a sense of
responsibility and also some concrete decision can be made by the end of the session as money
obviously motivate to work but you should respect others opinion as well.
Consultant: Do you have any other doubts or other queries? If you have any let me know so that I
