There are different types of healthcare which all aim at providing the best healthcare
services to their patients. These types of organizations include general hospitals, hospices,
medical group practices, physician offices, doctor’s clinic, and outpatient diagnostic centers
(Luxford, Safran, & Delbanco, 2011). After thorough research about the different types of
healthcare organizations, I was convinced that hospitals are the most effective and efficient of
them all due to various reasons. First, hospitals offer a range of acute care, convalescent, and
other services in different parts of the continuum care using therapeutic and diagnostic services.
Secondly, hospitals have organized and specialized medical staff and inpatient facilities. Also,
unlike other types of healthcare organization like hospice which relies upon donations from well-
wishers, hospitals have the best equipment and technology. Besides, they have unique physicians
who are specially trained to operate the hospital machines and other equipment to ensure that all
patient have the best health care that they possibly can.
Furthermore, hospitals utilize every resource available to ensure that the lives of the
patients are sustained, unlike hospices that focus on easing the dying process. Another primary
reason to why I think hospitals are the most effective and efficient is because hospitals offer
around the clock services, and there will always be a specialist around in case of any types of,
unlike doctor’s clinic where the specialists are few and not still available. Finally, the
organization of hospitals is correctly defined with the various department with leaders who
oversee activities of the physicians. Every specialist reports to some higher specialists thus this
ensures that everyone is on their toes in trying to provide quality healthcare for patients.
Hospitals have trained leaders who are well aware of their roles thus ensuring that everyone if
maximumly function and the whole organization if adequately running. Most hospitals also

accept medical insurance thus making the cost of accessing medical services cheaper for the
patients compared to doctor clinics (Thakur, Hsu, & Fontenot, 2012).
I believe that doctor clinics, on the other hand, are the least effective and efficient among
all the different types of healthcare organizations. Regarding providing health care, clinics do not
provide lifesaving care. Clinics cannot handle life-threatening issues. If a person gets ill and goes
to the doctor’s clinic, it is most probable that the individual will not get the appropriate care they
need and will end up wasting even more time there thus decreasing their chances of survival. The
organizations and leadership of some organizations are needy thus making employees get
comfortable in the workplace which in turn reduces efficiency. Clinics also lack a variety of
specialists in different sectors of healthcare. Lastly, most of the clinics are profit-making
businesses whose primary aim is to make a profit thus the cost of services tend to be more with
low-quality care.
Hospitals can be made more efficient and effective in improving transparency and
communication and boosting the productivity of the short staff using the right tools. Doctor
clinics, on the other hand, can be made effective by hiring at least three physicians specialized in
different areas which will always be available in case of any emergencies. Good leadership
should also be stressed. Lastly, clinics could consider merging with other types of healthcare
organizations which will in turn drastically take the organization to another level (Thakur, Hsu,
& Fontenot, 2012).
