Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment focuses on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems and programming, specifically for an automated sorting station. The solution includes a detailed PLC program written in ladder logic, designed to control the sorting station's operation. The program incorporates features such as conveyor start/stop control, part detection, material type identification (metallic or plastic), and sorting mechanism activation. The assignment also covers fieldbus systems, discussing their advantages and technical aspects, and analog processing, including an example of an analog input device. Furthermore, the solution addresses emergency stop systems, outlining the physical requirements for emergency stop buttons and functional stop buttons. The provided code and descriptions aim to demonstrate the application of PLC programming in industrial automation, emphasizing control logic, system integration, and safety considerations.

b. Fieldbus Discussion
Advantages and technical aspects of a selected field bus system:
Fieldbus is the name of a family of industrial computer network protocols, standardized as IEC 61158, used for real-time distributed
control. A complex industrial automated system— such as assembly line manufacturing— usually requires a centralized control system—
a hierarchical hierarchy of controller systems— to operate.
Speed: Fieldbus systems can be designed and built faster because of the reduced cable expense. Through just one cable, fieldbuses commu
nicate. Reliability: Short signal paths improve both system efficiency and reliability.
c) Analog Processing Discussion
An example of an analogue input device is a camera device.

Using PLC the transmission of data can be carried out over existing power lines using advanced technology. To do this, it is necessary to
use a pair of Power line Ethernet Adapters, also referred to as PLC modems. Using PLC network cameras, users do not need to use
Ethernet cables to connect network cameras to the router / network video recorder, which in turn can provide you with flexibility when
installing while reducing installation costs.
d. Emergency Stop Systems
Physical requirements for the following controls:
i) Emergency Stop Button
According to EN / IEC 60947-5-5, EN / IEC 60204-1, and EN ISO 13850, buttons used as emergency stop system
actuators are to be colored red. If there is a backdrop behind the actuator and it is colored yellow as far as possible. The
yellow backdrop is accomplished by most push button suppliers in one of three ways: Use of a yellow box,
Use of a big yellow emergency stop legend and Coloring the push button's "machine" yellow.
ii) Functional Stop Button
There is no clear mechanism for opening a general-purpose push button switch on the NC touch. If the touch welds,
conduction will be maintained and in a hazardous situation (load) the system will not be stopped. If this happens, the
system will continue to operate in the dangerous state. In security purposes, use the NC touch of an emergency stop push
button switch.
