integration of light, switches, smoke detectors, and electrical jacks with the use of AutoCad
Software
Geographical Location : [Please Fill]
Project Duration : [Please Fill]
Organization : [Please Fill]
Position in the Project : Electrical Engineer
CE 1.2: Project Background
CE 1.2.1: Characteristics of the Project
I was associated in the project for the construction of two storied domestic building for
[Please insert the name of the organization]. The project included the construction of the
building, completing internal and external design of the building and completing the electrical
design of the two floors. I was associated in this project as an assistant engineer for developing
the electrical plan for both the floor of the building. I have applied my understanding and
knowledge of AutoCAD software for providing appropriate placement and plan f the electrical
devices and equipments required in the building.

CE 1.2.2: Objectives developed for project
I was associated in this project for a particular period for the development of the
electrical plan for the two floors of the residential building. I was involved after the completion
of the construction module of the project. Therefore, for developing the appropriate electrical
plan for the building, I have developed the following objectives:
To evaluate the requirement of the client for determining the placement of the
electrical equipments;
To discuss the project plan and electrical device placement from Chief Electrical
Engineer associated with the project;
To obtain the blue print for the floor plan for the residential building;
To develop the appropriate electrical plan for the residential building;
To review and modify the plan for the residential building using AutoCAD software;
CE 1.2.3: My area of work
I was associated with the project as the assistant electrical engineer for the development
of the electrical plan for the residential building. I had the responsibility of evaluating the
requirement of the client and develop the appropriate plan using AutoCAD software.

CE 1.2.5: My responsibilities throughout the project
In this project I had the responsibility of analyzing the floor plan and understanding the
requirement of the client and the project manager. I determined the appropriate design for the
floor plan and executed the same using the AutoCAD software. I have further demonstrated the
placement of the electrical devices and equipments on the first floor of the building. Apart from

that, I have efficiently used the AutoCAD software for demonstrated the placement and
integration of the wiring and placement of the equipments.
CE 1.3: Distinctive Activity
CE 1.3.1: Comprehending the Theory of the project
I have worked under the supervision of the chief electrical engineer working in this
project for the developing the electrical plan for the floor. Before starting the work, the electrical
engineer showed me the location of switches, telephone jacks, TV, permanently mounted lights,
electrical outlets, chimes, smoke detectors and other appliances needs to be placed on the floor.
In addition to that, I have learned that the placements of the electrical equipments are done based
on the position of the outlet box required for the particular floor. I have kept the vertical location
of the devices consistent the floor. I have initially sketch out the electrical layout of the floor
before working with the AutoCAD software. Apart from that, I have ensured that each floor is
accompanied with extra jacks that have allowed the owner to modify and redecorate the house
based on their terms in the future.
CE 1.3.2: Engineering Knowledge and Skills applied in the project
I have visited the website of World Class CAD have downloaded the “Architectural
Electrical Symbol Library” for using different special symbol while developing the electrical
design of the floor. During my work, I was provided with the pre-designed plan of the first floor
for developing the electrical design of the floor. Initially, I have removed the window, door and
dimension symbol used in the previous plan and created a new layer for declaring the electrical
elements. While designing the electrical plan for the living room, I have inserted block for
showing the single pole switch that are being mounted on the exterior section of the wall. For

this I have selected the block item for the list menu of the AutoCAD software. I have rotated and
scaled the entity as required and fit for the floor. Furthermore, based on the direction of the chief
electrical engineer, I have used three way switch for the first floor. In addition to that, I have
used actuator controls for the lights that I have used in the staircase that allowed illuminating the
foyer and electrician. I have placed the switches accurately 48 inches above the floor for easy
usability.

CE 1.3.3: Accomplishment and Task Performed
I was involved with the group of various professionals working in the construction
industry. Since, I was associated with the development of the electrical plan, I was provided with
the detailed information for the implementation of the various equipments and elements for the

first floor. Apart from insertion of the light switch, I have worked for inserting the wall mounted
fixed light and recessed mounted light.
CE 1.3.4: Identified Issues and Their Solutions
Issue: After the completion of the full electrical plan of the first floor I have worked
through the rooms and demonstrated the placement of the electrical devices and equipments
throughout the floor. I have observed than in many places, the placement of the switches and
equipments felt inappropriate. Therefore, I have modified the plan according to the new
arrangement of the devices. I have faced significant issue, during the modification. I have
observed that while using the command shortcut for “extend”, I have used EX but the auto
complete command enabled totally different command and made undesirable changes the plan.
Solution: Initially I was unable to cope up with the issue; therefore I have contacted the
chief electrical engineer working in this project. He has suggested me to disable the auto
complete option in the command box. I have therefore used the “Input Search Options dialog
box” for changing and manually modifying the settings. Through this I was able to change the
auto correct settings for the AutoCAD. After making the required changes, I was able to
successfully remodeled the electrical plan and provided the chief electoral engineer with the
revised and completed plan of the two storied building.

CE 1.3.5: Plan for producing creative and innovative work
Figure 1: Placement of receptacles in the living room
While working in this project, I was informed that a 120 volt receptacles need to be
implemented on the floor for powering the various conveniences used on the floor. I have
showed creativeness with the placing of the receptacles. I have found that needs to be included
near the appliances and equipments used on the floor. In the living room, I have inserted total
number of five receptacles and placed them eight feet apart from each other. Through this, I was
able to place five receptacles at the living room.
After the development of the complete electrical plan for the first floor, I have worked for
the ensuring proper standard are being applied during the design and implementation of the
electrical plan. I have followed the industrial recognized standard in the project while discussed
the same with the chief electrical engineer before finalizing the plan. Further, I have followed

NEC (National Electrical Code) as demonstrated by NFPA (National Fire Protection
Association). Apart from that, I have communicated with the local building inspection authorities
for evaluating any local laws and regulation that needs to be included in the electrical plan.
CE 1.3.6: Collaborative work
I was involved in one of the major part for the construction of the two stories building.
For the proper development of the electrical plan, for the house, I have communicated and
discussed the plan and requirement of the client. In addition to that with detailed meetings and
discussion I was able to identify the requirements and expectation of the project manager, chief
electrical engineer and the client from the placement of the electrical design. I have further
followed various meetings and team collaboration for developing the required electrical plan for
the house.
CE 1.4: Project Review
CE 1.4.1: Project Overview
In this project, I was successful in developing the electrical plan for the two stories
building. Chief electrical engineer had reviewed the plan and used the same for inputting the
different element for the internal application of electrical devices.
CE 1.4.2: My contribution to work
I have used my knowledge and skills of AutoCAD in this project for the design of the
electrical plan. With the application of the accurate functionalities and elements of AutoCAD I
was successful in providing the appropriate plan for the building.
