Report
AI Summary
This report provides an overview of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) technologies, focusing on several key aspects. The report begins by defining the concept of a value set, which is crucial for the quality measurement tool, explaining how it encompasses the specific values and codes. It then explores the importance of code systems, particularly in the context of real-world versus technical concepts, and the role of terminologies used by various organizations. The report highlights several standard code systems such as SNOMED, DSM, LOINC, and HL7, emphasizing that the code system is an essential component of code value data types. Finally, the report discusses data types, specifically those used by HL7, distinguishing between primitive and composite data types, and how these data types are formatted within the HL7 2.x version.

What is the value set?
The value set is the list of particular value, codes, and terms that can be used to
provide administrative and clinical concepts in the quality measurement tool. Groups of
unique values can be provided in the value set. Apart from the values, it is also able to
provide a proper definition or description from the vocabularies that are used to provide the
same health concept.
Code System:
In the preliminary approach to our systematic field, we can find real-world vs.
technical objects. Every scientist and ordinary people use real-world concepts to express in
words. Communication is the most used code system if terminology (Oemig & Blobel, 2016).
External organizations mostly use these terminologies. Those organizations can represent
domain experts in a specific medical field. Code systems are mostly defined externally. Few
defined code systems are SNOMED, DSM - III, DSM – IV, LOINC, ICPC, ICPM, ICD9,
ICD 10, and CPT4.
The code system is an essential component of code value data types. But if the code
system is fixed by context, it does not require to be sent. In the message header of HL7, event
code is indicated (Wood, 2016). The only one code system can be allowed. The software of
the HL7 interface must know the code system. The code system is able to fill in the
component of default codes before it can transfer the value of the code to the application
layer of the software. If a specific code field is defined as a code value, but a specific
message contains the string value, the string considers as a part of a code value.

Data types:
This section of this report provides the data types that are used by HL seven (Benson
& Grieve, 2016). In the 2.x version, data types are considered as a format of a character
string. This format will appear in the Health Level seven 2.x version.
Every data type in the Health Level seven 2.x version has a specific name and the
proper descriptions. Two types of data types are primitive data types and composite data
types. A primitive data type only has a written specification. This specification can be
separated from the description attribute and a composite data type act as a variable. It has its
own name and type.
