This project, undertaken for EDLI636, focuses on the literacy development of two English Language Learners (EEL) students, one from second grade and another from seventh grade, through a literacy partnership approach. The project utilizes the Qualitative Reading Inventory 5 (QRI-5) to assess the students' reading skills, including word recognition, comprehension, and fluency. The assessment results are analyzed to identify strengths, weaknesses, and instructional levels. The project includes a teacher interview to understand challenges faced by EEL students. Based on the assessment, a lesson plan is developed, aligning with NYS P-12 Common Core Learning Standards ELA, to address the students' needs. The project also provides recommendations for teachers and parents to support the students' learning. The assessment results of the QRI-5 test are provided, including miscue analysis and comprehension levels. This project aims to enhance pre-service teachers' ability to use culturally responsive pedagogy and strategies to support EELs' learning.
